Having seen an upswing in interest in one of the world’s oldest dance styles, Johanna and Karen started a belly-dancing collective in 2004 as a way to create a community for both professionals and students and an audience for monthly showcases. They gave these enthusiasts a brick-and-mortar hangout in 2008 when they opened their first center for classes and events, which has since blossomed and moved into a new space nearly four times the size of the old studio. Today, Hip Expressions offers drop-in and ongoing classes led by seasoned instructors. Classes focus on introducing newcomers to the art form’s fundamental isolation techniques that keep hips and waists from arguing over the remote. In addition to belly dancing, classes include a variety of other dances and fitness crazes such as Zumba, yoga for dancers, or active isolated stretching.

When she dances, Sarah Murray doesn't just use a pole?she incorporates more than 15 years of ballet and modern dance training. And as the owner of Impulse Pole Dance & Exotic Fitness, she doesn't just dance. She and all her instructors have gone through pole safety and training certification, which they use to teach sultry, graceful routines in the studio's pole dance sequence. It starts with basic spins and transitions in the mandatory Intro to Pole Dance class, then progresses to more complex inversions and tricks such as The Phoenix, in which the dancer burns down her pole and builds a new one. In business more than five years, Impulse Pole Dance & Exotic Fitness was voted Best of the Bay 2011-Pole Fitness, and caters to women of all dance and fitness levels.

In sports, home-field advantage gives your team the upper hand. In fishing, it's actually not much different. Born and raised in St. Pete, Pocket Change's Captain Anthony knows exactly where to fish and all the ideal conditions for success on the water. During his group outings?which include tackle, bait, and lures for everyone?he leads the way as anglers haul in snook, redfish, trout, and other fish. They do so from the company's 16-foot custom skiff or its 18-foot bayboat, scouring local grass flats and reefs for their scaly targets. Afterward, Pocket Change also provides filet packaging so anglers can take their catch home to eat or to show their parents how much they continue to achieve in life.

The Huntington’s Disease Society of America has its sights set on obsolescence in the form of a cure. While that would mean shuttering the doors of its 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer organization, it would also mean relief for sufferers of the fatal illness, which may affect up to 250,000 people across the country. Until that day comes, its work continues. The organization oversees the Coalition for the Cure, which pools the resources and knowledge of 16 researchers across the world. While those researchers work, the organization also raises funds through a network of nationwide events—5Ks, bowling outings, dinners, cocktail parties—and directs the proceeds toward advocacy, education, and more research. A portion also goes to supporting medical, psychological, and social services at major medical facilities throughout the US.

In golf, it's important to choose the right club for each shot. It's equally important to choose the right educational approach for each student. Coach Marc intuitively understands this, which is why he helps golfers improve their swings with everything from one-on-one instruction to group clinics and on-course playing lessons. Over the years, Marc has shared his wisdom with more than 1,000 students. Take a look at his playing résumé, and you'll see that he's uniquely qualified to do so. At age 16, when most kids are busy goofing off, he set a course record at the challenging Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Course in Palm Harbor. He's also a two-time PGA Tour qualifier with three holes-in-one to his name. Today, Marc stays sharp by schooling new golfers at locations across Florida. To help him analyze what even his keen eye can't catch, he uses modern technology such as video analysis and balls that explode when you don't hit them correctly.
