Depending on your level of knowledge or thirst, you can choose either Wine Tasting 101 or 102. Wine Tasting 101 exposes senses to the basic traits of fine wines, allowing students to initiate their palates with six different varieties. 101-ers will learn rudimentary tasting techniques and the defining characteristics of both red and white wines. Wine Tasting 102 takes grape-based education to the next level with samples of three major reds (cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir and syrah) and three major whites (riesling, chardonnay and pinot gris) from across the globe. Guests will also be treated to a complimentary glass of Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) and a free high five upon arrival. Each class is limited to 15 persons and is about two hours long. When Honeywood Winery first began in 1933, it wasn't a winery at all, but rather a distillery that produced fruit cordials and brandies. Today, it's one of Oregon’s oldest operating wineries, producing a wide variety of fruit wines and a handful of reds and whites. In all, 50 different housemade wines are available, enough to float a battleship or a houseboat owned by a Rockefeller. And the winery's location in Salem isn't random—its proximity to Willamette Valley grants it easy access to many stalwart vineyards of the area. Visitors can peruse the marketplace for bottles, edibles, and gifts, or head to the tasting room for a complimentary sampling of wines.
Sculpted into the one-time family farm of former Oregon Governor and U.S. Senator Charles McNary, McNary Golf Club encompasses diverse trees and rippling waterways into an 18-hole layout that spans 150 acres of rolling meadows.
