At Adventures Unlimited, infants to 12-year-olds develop their love of learning through hands-on exploration in a safe environment, overseen by a team of first-aid- and CPR-certified caretakers. The center combines a park-like outdoor play area, ideal for aspiring tag-players and botanists alike, with an onsite trove of dress-up clothes to aid children as they become pirates or tiara-wearing pirates. Adventures Unlimited also fuels fun with snacks throughout the day, though children are responsible for bringing their own sack lunches.
Age-targeted activities abound throughout the year, with story time for infants and toddlers, after-school activities and transportation to local elementary schools for school-age children, and a pre-school for 3- and 4-year-olds with semi-structured art, science, math, and language classes. A registered private kindergarten pampers 5-year-olds with attention before transitioning them seamlessly into local public schools. During the summer months, the center’s camp hinges on weekly themes that can transform participants into chefs or educate them on Oregon’s history of hiding gold in its rivers and children's ears.
The flavorful tasting classes at West Side Wine Store include delectable pairing hors d'oeuvres of various cheeses, dips, and breads. Depending on your level of knowledge or thirst, you can choose either Wine Tasting 101 or 102. Wine Tasting 101 exposes senses to the basic traits of fine wines, allowing students to initiate their palates with six different varieties. 101-ers will learn rudimentary tasting techniques and the defining characteristics of both red and white wines. Wine Tasting 102 takes grape-based education to the next level with samples of three major reds (cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir and syrah) and three major whites (riesling, chardonnay and pinot gris) from across the globe. Guests will also be treated to a complimentary glass of Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) and a free high five upon arrival. Each class is limited to 15 persons and is about two hours long. Check out the class schedule for dates and times.
The individually owned and decorated units at Cavalier Beachfront Condominiums feature hotel amenities, including daily housekeeping and WiFi, and offer spectacular views of the central Oregon coastline. Each spacious condo accommodates a quartet of travelers in two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an open living area with a wood-burning fireplace that provides winter warmth and one-act plays starring fire. Guests can prepare homemade meals in fully equipped kitchens or on the facility’s shared propane barbecues; alternatively, they can dine out at nearby restaurants, such as Kyllo’s Seafood or the Side Door Café.
The philosophy at Gramma?s Farm Store isn't just farm-to-table?it's also farm-to-school, and, in some cases, farm-straight-to-mouth. The shop?which sells fresh, local produce from Pacific Coast Fruit Company to the community?strives to educate visitors about the importance of eating locally grown produce. To that end, they host frequent field trips so students can pick and taste the crops and learn about where their food comes from, sampling many items and enjoying other special events. And, of course, for those just looking to stock their pantry with fresh produce, the shop offers everything from berries and peaches to avocados and pumpkins, depending on the season, along with a selection of locally-made pies, salsas, and other edibles.
Throughout the year, Gramma's Farm Store offers a variety of farm-themed activities that inspire visits from families and home-sick grain silos. Berry picking gives parents and kids a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the summer, while in the fall, a pumpkin patch, corn maze, and hay rides help usher in the harvest season.
Gourmet foods, including cedar-plank salmon and flatiron steak, form the foundation of the dishes served by Divine Catering's licensed and insured crew. Chef and proprietor Alisa LaFurge helms the culinary team, which won Best Bite at the 2011 Taste of Portland. Adept at crafting fare for gatherings small and large, the crew pulls together menus for less formal events that call for boxed lunches and afternoon snacks to weddings that command epic feasts or rows of troughs, depending on the species of the bride and groom.
