The Dog Bark understands that dogs are family members that just happen to be furry. With that in mind, they target their pet-care services to pamper pooches as if they were your children with day care, boarding, and grooming. Daycare and boarding services provide dogs with hours of socialization and supervision while their parents are away, and grooming services ensure their fur is clean and knot-free.
Judy Brawley's lifelong passion for horses inspired her and her team of experienced trainers to foster sturdy bonds between horse and rider. Farm managers live on the premises, facilitating around-the-clock care, and a cadre of vets, dentists, and massage therapists monitors horses’ health and weeds out egotistical centaurs that attempt to infiltrate their ranks. Students learn proper riding techniques as they navigate the indoor and outdoor arenas of the 100-acre facility. Groomed bridle trails weave around pine and cherry trees, providing idyllic confines to bond with steeds and empathize with their desires to invent a trendy pair of high-heeled hooves.
Horseback-riding instructor Nancy White began teaching nearly 40 years ago. More than 30 of those years have been spent at her own Whitewind Farm, where indoor and outdoor arenas and fenced paddocks sprawl across 10.5 acres, providing plenty of ground to train steeds and riders alike. Although Nancy specializes in English-style riding, which primes equestrians for jumping, she tailors her lessons to fit the student, so the content is as flexible as a gymnast left in the sun too long.
Oakhaven Labs prides itself on breeding and training award-winning Labradors. The staff trains these dogs in basic obedience skills and hunting techniques to help them catch pheasants and upland birds. Even though they breed labradors, the experts at Oakhaven love dogs of all breeds and backgrounds. When families go away on vacation, dogs can stay at the on-site kennels, where they receive premium dog food, flea and tick medications, and plenty of room to run and play. All boarded dogs also get the benefit of an education with light obedience and fine dining etiquette training every day of their stay.
Westside Stables’ trainer and instructor, Katie, started riding at age 4. By the time she was 8, she was participating in jumping and showing events when most kids her age were just starting to neigh on command. Today, she passes on the knowledge she learned during more than 10 years of training to a new generation of horse pilots who take lessons atop friendly and patient horses. Westside Stables also plays host to two summer camps for children aged 5–15, which include riding lessons tailored to campers’ age and ability, lessons on horsemanship, and arts and crafts activities, which taunt horses via the campers’ wanton use of their opposable thumbs.
At Kat's Crepes, thin pancakes filled with sweet and savory ingredients are what's for dinner. Or lunch, or breakfast, or dessert thanks to the versatile dish. The menu beckons taste buds with crepes such as the BLT, smoked salmon, and banana and Nutella. Although the dish is traditionally French, local culinary items such as Tillamook cheddar and marionberry jam put a decidedly Northwestern American spin on things.
