The photographer behind the lens at Encore! Portrait Design does more than capture his subjects’ best angles. He also captures the bonds that his subjects share with one another, such as parents and their children, grandparents and their grandchildren, or siblings. He also snaps away as dogs and their owners pal around, and freezes four moments in the early life of a baby so parents can look back on the growth of their wee one from sleeping soundlessly at infancy to whittling their first bottle at one years old.

Elsinore Gallery owners Steve and Barbara Narkaus preserve all varieties of memento within more than 200 types of frames. Alongside stock and custom frames of wood, metal, and lacquer, hundreds of matting options give dimension to encased diplomas, family portraits, or parking tickets. Frames in sizes 24"x30" or 24"x36" preserve larger items, such as a movie poster or a member of the rebel forces frozen in carbonite. The husband-and-wife pair also stocks the shop's gallery with the works of local artists, including Barbara's own golf-theme artwork, which grants everlasting views of the scenic golf courses in the Pacific Northwest.
Six preserved tarantulas, a 6-foot puzzle of The Last Supper, and a full-length pro baseball uniform: Affordable Framing can?and has?framed them all. Since 1987, the McVey family has sought out dedicated staffers to help build custom frames from their inventory of more than 60,000 feet of moulding, thousands of sheets of matting, and tons of UV protective glass. They also inspire home decorators with preframed pieces and prints from local artists. Affordable Framing also has experience with corporate framing projects, including work for the Salem Hospital and the Oregon Military Department, in addition to numerous retirement facilities.
In 2001, the team at Southtree converted their first videotape to DVD. By the time they celebrated their 10-year anniversary, they had transferred more than 250,000 memories onto long-lasting digital formats. Today, clients follow a simple process with services that include photo-scanning, video-to-DVD, film-to-DVD, data DVD, and ancient Roman scrolls into text messages about togas. The staff processes each item by hand, yielding high-resolution photos and professionally mastered DVDs. Customers should allow eight weeks from the time materials are sent to Southtree to receive shipment.
The instructors of Gregory Dean Design / Photography help amateur shutterbugs to hone their camera skills with practical tips on composition, lighting, and exposure. Students put that advice into practice by photographing the stately lines of the Oregon State Capital building, the rich colors of autumn leaves in public parks, and other scenic sites around town. Both one-on-one and small-group workshops are available.
