Cambridge Art Glass is a fully equipped studio outfitted with everything needed to create beautiful glass pieces: workstations, kilns, tools, and a team of elves to do most of the work overnight. Proprietor and lifelong art lover Cindy Parmer leads a variety of classes, ranging in difficulty depending on students' experience levels, from basic beading workshops to four-week classes that result in blown-glass chandeliers.
Emily and Philip Vendemmia look after their students by wrangling a massive schedule of more than 72 classes per week spread over three locations. Bolstered by a strong team of certified Bikram yoga instructors, the duo guides students through Bikram’s 90-minute routine, consisting of 26 postures and two breathing exercises. Instructors crank each studio’s practice space to a hot and humid 105 degrees to help pupils’ muscles safely sink into deep, healing stretches and purge harmful toxins from the body. Each of the standing and seated poses is designed to work every muscle, ligament, and joint while sending freshly oxygenated vampire food to the organs to help support health and fitness.
Within each noncompetitive Curves facility, female fitness seekers are invited to move through a 30-minute circuit of hydraulic-resistance machines that are designed to promote weight loss, protect against osteoporosis, and deal with arthritis. Shunning cumbersome weight stacks, the hydraulic gadgets adapt to each exerciser's body weight and fitness level to complement her individual abilities, subsequently decreasing the risk of soreness or injury. And because traditional lift-and-lower motions tend to create bulky muscles, Curves' machines promote push-and-pull movements to sculpt toned, lean muscles, perfect for crushing unsuspecting grapefruit. Experienced trainers are always nearby to help clients manage their machine maneuvering, and a soundtrack of fun, upbeat music includes cues to let women know when it's time to move on to the next station or break for an air viola solo. Customers who wish to continue their membership after the trial will need to pay an enrollment fee of $49 in addition to the monthly rate.
The muscle tutors at Fitness Together will work with you to determine your goals (drop pounds, run a marathon, get strong enough to finally confront Douglas) and develop a customized workout plan designed to help you reach your true fitness potential. They’ll supervise your squats, offer nutritional advice, and push you until you see results. Individualized attention means it’s all about you—your trainer can point out when you’re doing a stretch incorrectly, help you tone the trouble zones, and push you to keep going when you’d otherwise quit or become distracted by the fragile beauty of a passing hummingbird.
Held in the facility's safe, clean, visually stimulating environment, My Gym's drop-off day-camp classes are designed for the dynamic child of the discerning parent. For three hours, campers from ages three to eight engage in bevy of physical, mental, and social activities to enhance their development, bolster their sense of accomplishment, and tucker them out in time for parents to pack them off home. With such a wide array of ages, pint-sized participants are placed in age-appropriate groups to challenge them with appropriate warm-ups, sports, and games, such as tumbling, dodgeball, and the way of the kinder-dragon. A day's worth of activities also includes free play, an art project, and story time, in addition to a complimentary snack. My Gym camp days change in weekly themes, so repeat campers need never fear the ennui that comes from five days at Camp Glue Factory.
