“My style is soft, genuine, full of life, love and romance,” photographer Liliana Scherillo, owner of Liliana Photography, says of her work. Her portraits of children and adults, which sometimes incorporate whimsical coloring or playful costumes, have a theatrical flair and vibrant emotion. After photo sessions, customers can view their proofs online before ordering prints, selecting only the images that really summarize “determination” for personalized motivational posters.

As the recession deepened, Metro Art & Frame owner Bo Okuyan found that demand never slackened for one market of art collectors: parents. Mr. Okuyan's business savvy caught the attention of the New York Times' Michael Winerip in 2010, who noted that a steady supply of finger paintings and crafts had caused Bo to rethink his definition of art. “All kids are artists, that’s how we look at it now,” he said. Whether upgrading fridge-hung stick-figure portraits to a permanent gallery or framing a more traditionally priceless painting, Mr. Okuyan and his staff begin with a complimentary consultation, tailoring each project to fit home or office aesthetics and personal style. Metro Art & Frame's acid-free mats center photographs, oil paintings, or post-modern puddles of spilled milk in an ornate, gold-leafed frame or elegant black one. Five types of glass and two flavors of plexiglass guard sensitive paintings from light damage with UV protection, and the shop's selection of contemporary and classic prints lets patrons fill in the gaps in their home galleries.

The frames at J. Reznik Studios don't just immortalize old photographs and new college diplomas; they also keep the memories of fallen heroes alive. As the studio's in-house artist, Jodi Reznik has eased the pain of lost loved ones for dozens of families—such as those of Suffolk County police officer Glen Ciano and NYPD officer Russel Timoshenko—by memorializing them with brush strokes on canvas. Equal parts frame shop, gallery, and conversation space, the studio beckons art lovers of all stripes to interact with Jodi and her husband, Jeff, while they browse her work or select a frame for an existing piece. Expert print makers also enlarge and emblazon images on paper and canvas to forge eye-catching photo gifts, and staffers specializing in flower preservation enshrine bouquets from weddings or punish daisies with unpaid gambling debts behind quality glass. J. Reznik Studios has impressed not only walk-in customers, but online clients as well, earning an 86% customer-approval rating from Groupon users.

Brock Graham has shot a documentary about pro-democracy street protesters in Tblisi, Georgia, as well as edited a short documentary entitled In The Shadow of Everest about the work of fellow artist and photographer Tom Wool, which ultimately became a companion piece to Mr. Wool's exhibition in the Rubin Museum of Art. Graham has also edited footage for MTV and promos for This American Life. But museums, televisions, and mirrors hung opposite televisions aren't the only showcases for the accomplished artist's creativity. You can find his work in plenty of photo albums as well.

In addition to working as a director, Graham arranges on-location photo shoots. As with documentaries, he brings a sense of realism to his photographs. Whether posed or unstructured, these shots express the true personalities and emotions of their subjects, capturing smiles between parents and kids, kisses between brides and grooms, and generation gaps between the branches of family trees.
