Established in 1966, Utah Heritage Foundation was the first statewide preservation organization in the western United States to preserve Utah’s historic buildings and neighborhoods, from pre-history to mid-20th century, through financial assistance, public and school tours, and advocacy.
When the American Heart Association was founded by six cardiologists in 1924, the only prescriptions given for heart disease were permanent bed rest and a diet of Valentines Day cards. Almost 90 years and 22.5 million volunteers later, the organization has accomplished much to combat the number one cause of death in the United States, not only by developing and disseminating effective treatment plans, but also by increasing awareness of preventative care and raising money for cardiovascular and stroke research. Outreach programs include CPR training, fundraising run/walks, and essential programs for healthcare professionals, educators, and caregiving everyday heroes alike.
Upcoming events between April 23, 2010, and May 29, 2010, are fair game (except for The Temptations) for a night at the opera or an evening or morning of symphonics. Surprise a date or impress your favorite ventriloquist dummy with a cultural experience for the ears.
The fifth-generation clothiers at Utah Woolen Mills deftly drape figures in designer and custom-made apparel for men and women. The gallery of stitched masterpieces frames displays filled with the store's own private line of outfits alongside designer brands such as Oxxford, Brioni, and Misook. Combed-cotton twill slacks from Bills Khakis ($115+) come in a spectrum of colors and weights to casually complement any outfit, ranging from a sleek Utah Woolen Mills sport coat ($375+) to a football jersey sewn out of invisible thread. Ladies and gents can adopt three fabrics from more than 300 swatches, which nimble fingers then translate into a trio of made-to-measure shirts according to 15 unique measurements and the client's choice of collar, cuff, and pocket styles ($294 for a set). Ties wrap necks in silken, prehensile folds ($45+), and female style chameleons keep their second skin changing with blouses ($65+) or the buttery warmth of a leather jacket by Pendleton ($178+).

This month’s Comedy Showcase invites a trio of jokesters to excavate laughs in The Depot’s urban space. Comic J. Chris Newberg enlivens standard standup with his blend of audience interaction and short songs that bait giggles with a grab bag of controversial topics, from religion to the usefulness of the metric system. Newberg’s edgy humor nabbed him stage time with Dane Cook, on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Comedy Central. A seasoned DJ and comedian, DJ Cooch sweet-talks microphones with confidence gained from co-hosting MTV’s Rock the Vote with Ashton Kutcher and flying overseas to entertain troops in Iraq, and funny woman Jen Murphy dissects dating and intergender communications. Before the show, host AJ from 97.1 ZHT warms up the stage with only a microphone and a huge electric blanket, as audiences settle into the urban interior of the old Union Pacific Station.
