Ara Celi and Robert Godines founded Matador Men's Grooming after gaining years of experience as Rooster's franchisees. They wanted to bring the same quality of service to a venue that felt a little more local, like a classic barber shop. They and their barbers still partner dashing, close-cropped haircuts with shaves, head and face massages, and hot towel wraps. They also offer waxing services particularly focused on grooming the eyebrows, and hair tinting to banish the flecks of grey that show up as people age or slowly become statues.
Michelle and Mouhssine, the chefs behind Sweet Thyme : A Personal Chef Service, both picked up culinary skills at a young age. Michelle remembers making butter cream with her father at the age of 4, and later worked as a sous chef for her mother’s pastry business. Mouhssine counts pulling carrots from the family garden and helping his grandfather to butcher lambs among his childhood chores in Tiflet, Morocco. Both eventually came to San Antonio to hone their skills at the Culinary Institute of America.
The two chefs distill their long immersion in the culinary arts into cooking sessions when they travel to clients’ homes. There, they fashion locally acquired ingredients into menus tailored to preferences and needs. They can prepare American dishes such as short ribs braised in Brooklyn brown ale and served with root vegetables, or craft international dishes such as Moroccan-style tagine lamb shanks with black-currant couscous. Meat-free entrees such as pumpkin enchiladas in mole sauce offer vegetarians an alternative to plastic fruit. Mouhssine is also a wine steward, and shares his knowledge through wine classes and presentations.
FineFeather Hair Extensions adds avian accents to customers’ locks with its selection of temporary extensions. A trio of feathers injects a shock of natural hues or dynamic colors into hairstyles to evoke images of wild glamour such as migrating in formation, flying against a sunset, or feeding hay to a Pegasus. Extensions remain invisibly attached to hair, adding striped strands or bright shades to an otherwise simple look without using hair-damaging chemical dyes. The quick 15-minute installation leaves an outcropping of plumage that can withstand washing, styling, and curling for up to six months before transforming back into an eagle and flying south for warmer weather.

When Leslie Sandoval founded Treat Hair Studio in 2007, she drew upon her time living in New York and Los Angeles to create a fusion of East and West Coast salon styles. This fusion manifests itself in the salon's contemporary furniture and modern art, a diverse staff of talented stylists, and constant arguments over which American coast has the biggest pyramids. For haircare, stylists exclusively use Italian-imported Davines hair products. The studio also carries a full line of Enessa skincare products, which are made with natural ingredients and essential oils. Each service at the salon is a full experience; it often includes a complimentary scalp treatment, shampoo and conditioning treatment, hand massage, mini facial, and blow-dry style.
