The fourth annual Pumpkin Patch San Antonio celebrates the advent of fall with harvest-themed entertainment, running Friday through Sunday for the entire month of October near Sea World. Traditional hayrides stir the senses with the scent of fresh straw as a seemingly endless plot of pumpkins waits to be turned into fresh pies, pancakes, and sweet bread. While at the festival, kids can ride ponies, pet small farm animals, or defy gravity in the inflatable bounce house and slide.
"I will use my new ability with the respect of a deadly weapon for I am a weapon." So goes the oath sworn by students at Korea-America Tae Kwon Do Association, where instructors guide them through their chosen martial-arts discipline. In addition to Olympic-style tae kwon do, hapkido, and kumdo classes for all ages and ability levels, the center offers a Pure Fitness program especially for women.

The instructors at Saldivar Martial Arts Leadership Academy aren't exactly new to teaching students the passion, discipline, and integrity of martial arts. The studio itself has been open since 1986, and its four instructors have a combined experience totaling more than 60 years. Matt Saldivar, a 5th degree black belt, is among them. Together he and his wife Amy Saldivar—a third degree black belt and instructor—co-own the academy and bring 25 years of experience to their business. The duo leads not only intensive muay-thai sessions for adults, but also after-school programs and summer camps for kids as young as five. The studio's class list is just as beginner-friendly, since it separates pupils by their level of experience and their ability to quote the best lines in The Karate Kid.
The System is more than just a name for this fitness studio—it's an actual system used to combat excess weight and tone bodies. It combines everything from resistance training and plyometrics to weight lifting and mixed martial arts with nutritional guidance. It also relies on functional-fitness exercises, which mimic everyday activities to help you with such common tasks as carrying heavy grocery bags filled with dumbbells.
The studio's fitness classes include calorie-torching Power Fit classes and kickboxing camp, plus flexibility-enhancing stretching. The studio also offers boot camps and martial arts classes for kids and adults.
