At the age of 11, Peggy Newlan began sculpting her mother's hair into beehives and french twists. She practiced on friends and family members, her fingers becoming more and more adept as she styled manes and picked locks. Despite her innate talent for hairstyling, Newlan pursued a career in accounting and banking. Eventually, she returned to her true calling, joined ooh la la Salon, and purchased the company in 2003.

Newlan now leads a team of stylists, as well as a massage therapist and a skincare expert who is an educator at Florida Academy. The beauty specialists perform a variety of services, from cuts, highlights, and ionic hair straightening to nailcare and spa services such as facials, massages, waxes, and spray tans.

For 15 years, Mariuska Garcia sharpened her hairstyling skills in professional salons beneath the warm Miami and Los Angeles sun. Then, in 2004, she opened Uska's Salon & Spa and began sharing her knowledge of salon and spa services⎯including massage, waxing, peels, and mani-pedis⎯and filling shelves with products by DevaCurl, OPI, Oxygen Botanicals, and Wella. While her stylists work, white tree-branch silhouettes stretch across two onyx walls and attempt to braid clients' velvety locks.

Taylor Strauss mastered the art of aesthetics, focusing her skills on becoming a facial specialist. Taylor made her way to Contour Body Works, a beauty haven where the staff pampers clients with massages, facial treatments, and laser therapies. From the spa’s elegant treatment rooms, Taylor keeps her attention on rejuvenating complexions using classic european facials and masks infused with fruit acids and mud. She also excels in more advanced services, such as diamond dermabrasion and dermaplaning, both of which exfoliate away the top layer of skin to reveal unclogged pores and the scores of pogs that were hiding within them. Strauss is also trained in reflexology—which she uses to help relieve clients' tired soles—and body wraps designed to detoxify and moisturize, and eyelash extensions that define peepers with faux lashes.

Serendipity Hair Studio cultivates a family-like atmosphere with a staff of experienced and always friendly hair stylists and nail technicians. Tricia Theall is one of four hairstylists, and her expertise with Redken Centricity and her training with Nordic hair extensions and Keratin by Coppola help her to beautify clients to their specifications. She is also always up-to-date on the latest trends and particularly enjoys working with clients trying the most recent looks. The salon in which Tricia and her cohorts ply their trade features elegant framed mirrors, artwork on the walls, and floors that, like lumberjacks' cell phones, are hardwood.

To earn the title of stylist at Bruce Todd Salon, all team members must complete one year of advanced in-house training. Schooling does not end there, as each stylist must participate in continued education to stay current with industry trends and celebrity poodle fads. The rigorously tested stylists craft vibrant styles with high-end Goldwell color products, and finish said styles with equally top-notch products by KMS California. In addition to hair services, the salon also offers waxing and nail care.

Robyn Berry of RB Institute works to enhance the well-being of patients through detoxifying services and patient education. As a licensed massage therapist, she melts away tension and instills calm with gliding strokes. In addition to her deft hands, she uses a Himalayan salt stone to exfoliate the skin, improve circulation, woo Sherpas, and discharge metabolic wastes in the body. Her health haven also discharges toxins from the body with colon hydrotherapy and sweat sessions inside a steam cabinet.
