Dr. De Meyer and Dr. Gernhofer traveled from sea to sea as dentists in the U.S. Navy, both sailing home with Navy Commendation Medals for meritorious service. Since washing the salt from their hair, they've begun treating the teeth of landlubbers and the baleen of beached whales. Drs. De Meyer and Gernhofer attend continuing-education programs to keep their general, orthodontic, and surgical services up to date. In a series of testimonials spoken from sparkling mouths, patients have praised the dentists for their skill, honesty, and bedside manner.

A Shop For Smiles’ Dr. Richard Hagstrom cares not only for his patients, but also for his community and the environment. All of his in-office procedures are designed with the patient's comfort in mind. As a charter member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS), he specializes in treating clients who suffer from dental anxiety.

Reaching out beyond his practice’s patients, he donates services to raise money for charitable children's organizations via the Smiles for Life Foundation, and has sponsored a Little League baseball team for kids with disabilities. He has traveled as far as the Dominican Republic to tend to teeth in need.

He and his team understand that their practices can have a greater impact on the earth, so they maintain eco-friendly practices such as recycling printer cartridges and keeping water-compressor switches in the "off" position.

In keeping with the commitment to Mother Nature, the office is decorated with a surf-shop theme, featuring a miniature boogie board, a wooden coconut tree, and chairs whose intricately woven, white dental-floss patterns look a lot like wicker.
