Located in the East Village, Flirt, a light and open street level salon, makes customers feel relaxed and confident in their salon choice. Joy runs the tidy and pretty salon as one of the original owners along this East Village block. A forward thinking, Bumble and bumble establishment, Joy and her hand-picked stylists, use the products and training first made famous in New York over 30 years ago. The salon is a treat for the senses with rococo mirror frames grounded by earthy, brown leather seating, and touches of chrome riding above the wood floor. The salon offers cuts for both men and women, and also does highlights, hair extensions and Brazilian blowouts.
One of the first rock ‘n’ roll barbershops, Floyd’s 99 Barbershop combines an electrifying atmosphere with reasonable prices. The East Village location’s corner storefront is rimmed with comfortable seating and has been providing San Diegans with top-of-the-line hair services for almost five years. There are about a dozen stations behind a tall reception counter plastered with bold graphics, and rock posters are splashed across walls that resound with a matching sound track. Appointments are encouraged, but all of the select stylists are well trained and will provide all clients with an excellent cut. The salon/barbershop is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, except Sundays.
Customers who walk into the urban setting of Glo Salon immediately know that artists are at work within. The entrance is through an industrial, rolling door, and inside, exposed beams and original brick walls are complimented by contemporary art and glowing chandeliers. Each stylist is an independent booth renter with different expertise, but most offer haircuts, highlights, straightening and extensions. One of Glo’s more well-known coiffeurs, Chance Salaz, is skilled in hair coloring and a pioneer in extensions, having crafted a micro-bonding technique that gives clients enduring tresses with little stress and no breakage. Walk-ins are accepted, but due to high volume, men and women are encouraged to contact the salon for appointments.
Most stylists concentrate on transforming clients with a new haircut. Versatile stylist Chance Salaz not only cuts off unwanted strands, but she adds length as well. Chance specializes in hair extensions, changing bobs into floor-length locks in a heartbeat. Another specialization—hair color—breathes new life into locks with everything from natural-looking highlights to bright-blue streaks to attract that buff merman you've been eyeing at the beach.
Pale blue walls and snowy white accents lend Salon Xcess a cloud-like aura that reflects the fun yet relaxing atmosphere fostered by its staff. Throughout the day, the snips of their scissors mingle with the cheerful laughter of a pedicurist chatting with patrons as she gilds toes in bright polish. This welcoming ambiance translates into personalized services, such as pre-cut consultations conducted so stylists can analyze each client’s face shape, complexion, and dream journal to help determine a flattering hairstyle or color. Along with an abundance of friendliness, the staff possesses a wealth of tress-based know-how, including an arsenal of tricks and treatments to restore radiance to rough, dry, oily, and frizzy hair.
