Peruse and purchase original works from more than 100 emerging exhibitors, representing the best indie designers of men's, women's, and children's clothing, accessories, innovative art, eco-friendly house wares, and more. Pore over the abundant offerings with the thumping beats of live DJs and local bands, or haul in old or unwanted designer and vintage duds for recycling, swapping, or selling. A complimentary hair and makeup touch-up will be available in the Style Lounge; spontaneous fashion shows and style tips will abound; and (non-complimentary) drinks will flow throughout the venue to relax stimulated shoppers at the end of a long, enlightening day.
The Fillmore Auditorium—founded in 1907 as the Mammoth Roller Rink and renovated in 1999 to evoke the famous Fillmore in San Francisco—has hosted numerous stars and dignitaries on its stage. Although everyone from Marilyn Manson to James Blunt has packed the concert schedule, the space remains an especially popular site for jam bands; Phish mastermind Trey Anastasio christened the revamped venue in 1999 by performing a marathon set and filling the air-conditioning system with patchouli.
Challenge Nation pioneered the urban-adventure race with a race season that includes visits to 35 cities across the country. Each scavenger hunt is personalized to the hosting city, exploring its many diverse neighborhoods with a series of clues that would test even the most skilled children's-book detective. The teams—comprised of at least two people—vie for a $300 first-place prize. The _Amazing Race_–style competition rewards quick wits and wise planning over physical fitness, so the best way to prepare is by doing logic puzzles while eating Funyuns and lounging in a La-Z-Boy. The top 25 teams qualify, the top five receiving free entry, to compete in the national championship, which rewards winning teams with a $5,000 cash prize.
Led by former NBA point guard and first-year head coach Mark Jackson, the Golden State Warriors charge into the second half of the season. Veteran guard Monta Ellis blows by defenders with an average of 22.2 points per game while forward-center David Lee muscles out under-the-basket rivals for an average of 9.7 rebounds per game. Rookie guard Klay Thompson keeps opponents guessing with the ability to drop shots from all over the court and the inexhaustible supply of riddles he declaims during commercial breaks.
