To propel students feet-first into the industry, the San Francisco School of Digital Filmmaking has designed a project-based curriculum that combines traditional classroom study with real-world training. The school's one-year program covers the filmmaking process from start to finish, including independent filmmaking in different genres such as fiction, commercials, documentary, and straight-to-Internet shorts of cats completing three-act emotional arcs without ever leaving their boxes. At the end of the project-based program, each student comes away with more than five completed projects that include a 30-second commercial and an 8- to 12-minute thesis film, plus crewing on an additional 25 or more student films. The school also leads shorter programs and workshops designed for the active student, film enthusiast, or veteran filmmaker. Workshops include one-day, two-week, five-week, and three-month filmmaking courses, and a six-month documentary filmmaking program, though few humans can stay awake for a full six month-long movie.

SF Mixology founder Shawn Refoua blended his experience as program director for the San Francisco School of Bartending and a student of behavioral psychology into an academy that brings bartending methodology and cocktail mixology into the 21st century. With an eye toward libation history, the school's interactive classes range from basic and advanced mixology courses to in-depth lessons on specific liquors and the evolution of the cocktail through the 14 years of Prohibition and the decade when swizzle sticks were outlawed. Each class complements the goals of cocktail party hosts, as well as aspiring or continually learning bartenders, who can learn and practice essential behind-the-bar techniques while brushing up on flavor theory and emerging recipe methodologies. Held in the vibrant Infusion Lounge, the laid-back classes include plenty of sample sips and enthusiastic toasts to newfound friends.

Revere Glass School equips students of all experience levels with up-to-date glassworking gear from Glass Torch Technologies and Delta Elite. Six feet of working space at each workstation provides ample room for glass blowing and fusing or pipe making, while ventilation systems whisk away meddling ghosts. Experienced instructors aim to foster a noncompetitive working and learning environment through up to six levels of classes, guiding each glass-wielding neophyte along on his or her distinct artistic journey.

Courses span principles of practical foundations, creative techniques, and establishing an artistic business. Themed workshops feature international guest artists who lead intensives in methods that they've mastered, such as crafting holiday ornaments that double as single-use baseballs.

The skilled instructors at Inspire Music Center encourage students to express themselves through song during beginner, intermediate, and advanced lessons in a variety of instruments, including electric guitar, cello, French horn, and voice. Its ensemble of music graduates and seasoned performers uses its extensive musical knowledge and collection of 20 different instruments to teach aspiring musicians proper playing techniques, practice methods, theory, and how to topple glass houses with high notes. In addition to honing students' music-playing skills, instructors prep advanced pupils for professional auditions, instrumental competitions, and concerts.
