  • Event Center at San Jose State University 2012
Gigantour, the behemoth extravaganza of heavy metal founded by speed rockers Megadeth, returns from a three-year hiatus with an all-new lineup of hard-hitting legends handpicked by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine. Mustaine leads his own frothing band of shredders through a bludgeoning set of classics and tracks from TH1RT3EN, Megadeth's latest album and the universal password of satanic bakers. Riding shotgun and fully cocked, Lemmy and the bruisers of Motörhead crack skulls and renovate eardrums with blitzkrieg classics about playing cards, fisticuffs, and the merits of chewing ammunition. Other Megadeth-approved acts include Danish metal fiends Volbeat, who cook up molten tunes fit for a sixth grader’s exceptionally brutal science-fair volcano, and Italian goth metallurgists Lacuna Coil.

  • San Jose State Football
For the better part of a century, Spartan Stadium has been a cornerstone of San Jose State athletics and university life, hosting more than 300 home football games since 1933, as well as soccer games and concerts packed with more than 30,000 fans. Open during home football games, the Jeff Garcia Hall of Champions pays tribute to more than 300 former athletes and coaches, including pro football stars, golfers, and judo experts. Beyond the football team's keep, the other bastion of SJSU athletics, the Event Center, opened its doors in the late '80s to house men's and women's basketball contests as well as a weight room for students and a take-a-foam-finger, leave-a-foam-finger depository for fans. Spartan athletics maintains a high pedigree throughout their programs, including recent WAC championships for their men's and women's golf teams.

  • Wicked Woods
At Wicked Woods, guests embark upon an interactive, Halloween hunt that promises plenty of tricks and treats. Visitors venture into the spooky foliage and stop at check points along the route, where they must perform various undead deeds, such as retrieving an item or face the wrath of a working guillotine. From Frankenstein's electric chair to the Phantom's masquerade ball, tricks abound and monsters lurk around every wooded turn. When attendees emerge from darkness, a swag bag of goodies awaits. Meanwhile, what's swirling in the night at Goblyns Glen? Spooky spirits, werewolves, and?according to Sir Amiss Higglesbottom?a monster or two. As master of ceremonies of the Glen's monster safari, Higglesbottom alerts precocious guests of the monsters they may meet while trick-or-treating their way through an enchanted world of Halloween fun. Along the path, they encounter costumed characters, vendors selling snacks, and impressively elaborate Halloween displays that feature everyone's favorite holiday characters such as skeletons and pumpkins. The tradition is familiar to Oak Meadow Park, which has transformed into a magical, spooky wonderland every Halloween since 2008. While sweet aromas waft from various food booths, families hear recanted tales of ghostly lore and ogle interactive oddities. Those who visit on Saturday, October 25, will be treated to balloon twisters and a performance by Patrick the Magician.
