Cesar Gonzalez and Ashley Lopez-Gonzalez started small, teaching Mexican folk dances to family members in the summer of 2007. But by winter of that year, they'd decided to extend their knowledge to the entire community, so they opened Grupo Folklorico Los Laureles. Since then, Ashley, Cesar, and other instructors have helped students of all levels learn traditional Mexican choreography and music.
San Jose Learning Center helps its students expand their minds with foreign language classes, private tutoring in academic subjects, and special interest lessons. Participants can glean a wealth of knowledge in German or Japanese classes, or discover a new hobby in landscape and portraiture courses.
While studio owners and eight-time Canadian ballroom-dance champions Delphine Romaire and Dominic Lacroix instruct more advanced levels, their staff of champion instructors teaches the tender-footed to trip the light fantastic at Elite Dance Studio. Four weeks of 90-minute beginner classes get hips shaking and calories burning in tandem with the floor. Hone limb acuity with basic steps such as the cha-cha, quickstep, jive, and foxtrot, or let waists eschew inertia with whirling waltzes and speedy sambas. No previous dance experience is necessary, so neophytes need not worry about classmates judging them after they attempt to hold their partners by the Freudian super-ego.
