D Hair and Spa employs specialists who hail from the Dermalogica Institute. These skincare workers offer advanced facials that begin with "skin mapping," which help them discern what the client's skin type is and which issues need the most attention, such as age spots beneath the eyes or a fire budding in the nostrils. With that knowledge, they combat blemishes during treatments that feature Dermalogica products. If you want to maintain your skin regimen at home, these same products are available for purchase in the spa's retail section.

D Hair and Spa's massage therapists, meanwhile, are armed with a range of bodywork techniques and therapeutic-grade essential oils. They offer Thai, Swedish, and hot-stone massages which, when combined with scents of lavender, wintergreen, or lemon, pack a one-two punch of releasing muscle tension and inducing feelings of bliss.

Siam Touch's licensed massage therapist, Samak Suiseeya, animates traditional Thai massage techniques gleaned from more than 500 hours of training to relieve stress and aid full-body relaxation. Treat tense muscles and sore skeletons to a 60- or 90-minute Thai herbal massage, which incorporates a variety of soothing techniques—including herbal compresses, acupressure, deep-tissue massage, meditation, assisted yoga, and reflexology—to help patrons achieve higher levels of mental and physical repose. Throughout the intensive, yet relaxing, treatment, the massage therapist makes full use of his hands, thumbs, and arms to break the bonds of internal tension and promptly discard any board games glued to the back. In addition to easing knots and other general aches and pains, the lengthy treatment can also help increase flexibility and circulation.

A white canopy hangs from the ceiling's center, forming a snowy, gabled pathway. Shorter green curtains pull back to reveal a series of private rooms, with the canopy's flowing excess folds decorating the wall in modest emerald ponytails. After clients lie down on the Asian–style floor mats, one of Chiang Mai Thai’s skilled massage practitioners enters to mend muscles using Thai techniques, thought to have been practiced for several thousand years. By blending these time-tested stretching and joint-rotation exercises with modern Swedish and deep-tissue techniques, lightly oiled hands can release toxins held captive in the blood and career goals of becoming Han Solo trapped in the subconscious.

Certified massage therapist Erin Warfield Shaffer expresses her belief in holistic approaches to wellness by treating bodies to a detoxifying combination of hands, herbs, and hydrotherapy. Shaffer's four massages range from hot-stone techniques that melt tension in backs to reflexology methods that manipulate the feet in an effort to relieve pain in the rest of the body. She also cleanses bodies with such detoxification rituals as the acupoint session, a massage-like treatment that causes key points in the body to absorb healthy herbs so that clients don't have to sleep on a pile of herb-crusted halibut. The center also concocts custom facials and peels that nourish the skin with hydrotherapy, botanicals rich in Vitamin C, and other organic ingredients.

Q&A with Ashley, Owner Holistic Health Practitioner

What is one of your signature services? How is it performed?

I specialize in many aspects of women's wellness which include fertility, the perinatal time, early labor, labor and birth as well as the postpartum period and beyond. One of my signature treatments is called the labor preparation massage. This session is catered to the specific needs of each women and is a blend of relaxation and rebalancing techniques with the use of acupressure to support the natural process as the body prepares for birth. All of the techniques performed during this treatment are comfortable and safe for full term pregnancy and are supportive to what is already occurring in the body. It is a wonderful way to connect with your body during the last stage of pregnancy and a wonderful way to connect with your baby before your birthing time.

What?s your favorite part about your job?

Getting to work with women and partners as they become families. Supporting women during such a sacred and transitional time is an honor. As a massage therapist, it's amazing to see women go from feeling discomfortable to truly enjoying their pregnant bodies!

What steps do you take to make your clients feel at ease?

_I make sure that every session is special and unique for each client. I always provide time to sit down and talk before we ever begin a treatment so that my clients feel comfortable and are able to provide me with helpful information to make their session as effective and enjoyable as possible. I also do a postural assessment beforehand to address specific needs and focus areas. During the treatment, I set up special pillows for optimal positioning. I use a blend of eastern and western massage techniques with focused intent to create a safe space for a body/mind healing experience. I encourage my clients to communicate their needs and wants and to ask as many questions as necessary.

I also have many resources for support and education and a lending library for all my clients! I believe knowledge is empowering which is why I do my best to create an open, learning environment while also offering a serene and nurturing space for a relaxing massage experience._
