Over the last decade, Lynne Klein has worked with hundreds of clients across the San Francisco Bay Area to create portrait art that entire families can cherish forever. A mother herself, Lynne falls back on her own life experiences to pluck fleeting moments from the passage of time and accentuates the importance of those moments with her photography. She often travels to picturesque sites to conduct on-location shoots, but her San Rafael boutique studio—complete with a skylight that brightens sessions with the sun's gleam and grins of on-looking spacemen—also drapes poses in a great deal of elegance. When the last bulb has flashed, Lynne turns the results into unique wall art, collages, canvas portraits, and more.

Elite Brights’ at-home advanced teeth-whitening kit lets users buff molars and blanch incisors without swapping plush recliners for dentist chairs. After a routine tooth brushing, flossing, and fang sharpening, customers apply the kit’s pale-making gel to a plastic whitening tray. They then install the tray securely in the mouth and fit an LED light against the front teeth to activate the gel’s hydrogen peroxide cleaning agent, brightening chompers without harming preexisting dental fixtures, such as permanent harmonicas. The kit comes with enough gel for 2–5 whitening treatments, allowing clients to spread their dental purification over time.

Tragedy inspired a career for Pnina Zoharah. In the late 1980s, Pnina’s mother fell ill with multiple sclerosis, and while her family turned to Western medicine for help, Pnina began research of her own. Eventually, she stumbled upon a self-healing book that outlined how one practitioner, Meir Schneider, cured his own blindness. Unfortunately, Pnina’s family did not have the funds to take her mother to see Schneider before her death.
Though her mother was gone, Pnina carried on, moving to San Francisco to study with Schneider and learn about energy work, hands-on healing, and emotional release. Today, she continues on her path, now with several publications and teaching seminars under her belt. She's also the owner and practitioner at Movement and Spirit. Within her relaxation oasis, she administers tailored bodywork sessions using several techniques, from Swedish and deep-tissue to neuromuscular and reiki therapy. Pnina encourages clients to turn to movement for relief with dance and movement therapy, which incorporates slow, gentle, and sometimes unusual movements, and hearkens back to her first understanding of self-healing with yoga for the eyes classes and vision-enhancing bodywork sessions. She even helps with emotional troubles through emotional-release work, spiritual counseling, and spiritual-parenting seminars, which are designed to boost communication between adults and kids.
The mentors at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Bay donate their most valuable possession, their time, to continue a national tradition more than a century old. The volunteer mentors match up with a youngster from the Big Brothers Big Sisters wait list—typically an at-risk child who might come from a neglectful or abusive situation. The pair then meets in the community once a week, whether to hang out in the park, attend a sporting event, or simply chat about what’s going on in each others’ lives.
For the 1,600 children currently served in Marin, Napa, Sonoma and Solano Counties, the chance to spend time with a positive adult influence can have long-lasting effects. This regular interaction can help level the playing field for children facing an uphill battle to success, allowing them to grow, giving them encouragement to stay on the path to success, and helping them avoid negative influences. The evidence is in the numbers. According to the Big Brothers Big Sisters website, Littles are 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs and 52% less likely to skip school.
