Ryan Dempsey, the founder and licensed acupuncturist of Marinwood Community Acupuncture, first crossed paths with the treatment when he traveled to China while earning his undergraduate degree in history. As a part of the National Youth Leadership Forum on Integrated Medicine, he saw firsthand the integration of Western and Chinese medicine in several of the country’s large public hospitals, where he gained a deep appreciation for the culture and history.
But it wasn’t until Ryan experienced a severe shoulder injury that he had personal experience with acupuncture. Faced with the idea of surgery, he instead thought back to his experiences and sought out treatment for himself. Eventually, with treatment and rehabilitation, he recovered fully and was inspired to dedicate his career to Chinese medicine. Now, practicing integrative Chinese medicine with a specialty in women’s health and obstetrics, he runs Marinwood Community Acupuncture, where he invites patrons to seek treatment for conditions relating to areas such as reproductive, neurologic, or sleep. He offers both private and communal acupuncture sessions, as well as herbal medicine (sourced from a company in Boulder, Colorado), directing the best course of treatment and action based on review of patients' medical history and concerns.
Both Elise and Joseph were immersed in Oriental medicine. Their love for holistic healing, among other factors, drew them to each other, leading to their marriage, and eventually, their private practice. Together they treat a wide range of maladies such as chronic pain, fertility issues, and addiction problems with acupuncture and massage. They carefully place hair-thin pins along the body's meridian points to stimulate energy as well as around the face to eliminate signs of aging and explain why Pinhead looked so good after thousands of years. First visits include an initial consultation to assess any conditions or maladies they can treat.
Rolfing is a system of bodywork that involves the reshaping of connective tissues, and it's been Ramone's area of expertise for the past two decades. During sessions, clients either stand or recline covered on a table as the certified Rolfer analyzes posture and feels for unevenness in tissue characteristics. He then applies deep pressure to the fascia with the aim of reversing the effects of gravity, which pulls down on the body until its alignment and powers of levitation are off. Ramone also offers tips on how to improve movement and body awareness, which can help prevent further strain or misalignment.
