  • Sylvan Learning Center
In crowded classrooms, it's easy for the needs of individual children to be overlooked. Despite the best efforts on the parts of teachers and students alike, all children learn at different rates and in different ways. Sylvan Learning Center's nationwide network of tutors and resources seeks to fill in educational gaps and keep flagging students from elementary to high school up to speed. Whether children struggle with reading, writing, or solving the complex logarithms necessary to get their jetpacks airborne, Sylvan's learning gurus help them chart a course through learning roadblocks. Initial skills assessments determine where students fit into the Sylvan tutoring regimen with a series of tests, diagnostic tools, and interviews. With a greater understanding of the needs of each student, tutors create custom approaches to keep students engaged and in command of the fundamentals.

  • Black Clover Golf Academy
Golfers forge a path to straighter drives, smoother putts, and lower scores year-round inside Black Clover Golf Academy’s 22,000-square-foot golf learning and training facility. Evan Byers oversees the operations, bringing insight learned during a four-decade golf career that includes stints as a player, caddy on the Senior PGA TOUR, representative of golf manufacturer Callaway Golf, and tournament director of numerous PGA tour level tournaments. Evan personally vets each instructor, ensuring that they can instruct any level of golfer with confidence and aren’t spies working for the caddy of one-time rival Chi-Chi Rodriguez. Black Cover Golf Academy fosters golf-game improvement with a 12-stall driving range, a 2,100-square-foot putting green, a practice sand trap, and a golf simulator. As golfers hone their swings, a burbling creek and walls plastered with pictures of scenic mountains simulate the experience of being on a world-class golf course without the threat of running into a herd of feral golf carts.

  • Huntington Learning Center of Draper
In the late 1970s, career educators Eileen and Raymond Huntington opened the first Huntington Learning Center in Oradell, New Jersey. Their goal was to take an individualized approach to education, adjusting instructional tactics according to each student's particular set of needs. Their success in helping K–12 students prepare for exams and improve grades and study skills quickly spawned franchises across New York and New Jersey. Today, the certified Huntington tutoring staff utilizes testing and rubrics for assessing each child's skills, academic needs and potential for growth. The teachers even note the student's behavior in different testing and academic situations to craft a methodology sensitive to each child's learning style. Teachers also adhere to the company's code of ethics that stresses professionalism and confidentiality, encouraging pupils to improve their grades honestly through dedicated study rather than shortcuts.

  • Paul Green School of Rock
With the private, personal instruction from experienced musicians, kids will soon be shaking the walls and integrating British slang into their vocabulary. In the Performance Program (a $275 value), budding musicians learn the fundamentals of playing an instrument during a weekly 45-minute private lesson as well as one weekly group rehearsal. At the end of the season, students have the opportunity to perform at a rock venue (past student performances have included Pink Floyd's The Wall, AC/DC, Best of the '80s, and Devo). The All Access Membership Program (a $180 value) offers a 30-minute weekly lesson along with a one-hour weekly jam session and two tickets to each of the school's seasonal shows. In this program, students are free to focus on what they want to learn, whether it be perfecting a favorite rock song or practicing improvisation skills. Enrollment is rolling and based on seasons.
