Most people don't get business calls from Walt Disney World. But, two decades ago, Glass Addicts owner Denise Hurley received just that—along with a request to design and build Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa's carousel horse. In the years since, orders have continued to pour in from Kohl's, The Mirage hotel, and other businesses and collectors seeking Hurley's Tiffany-style stained-glass and art-glass designs. Hurley also builds masterpieces on a smaller scale, restoring and repairing customers’ already existing pieces and building custom panes for homes and offices. Intent on sharing her talent with others, Hurley teaches classes on formats ranging from mosaic picture frames to stepping stones to dentists' mirrors overlaid with your favorite Metallica album covers. No previous experience is necessary, as classes accommodate beginners and master artists alike. Sessions take place in spacious, well-lit rooms filled with materials, and students and customers can study from books inspired by Hurley's designs or observe the installment skills of her professional staff.
Each Eye Doctor?s Optical Outlets location is doctor-owned, uniting the staff with a common vision to sharpen sight and boost eye health. Eye examinations reveal prescriptions and uncover any other ocular problems. After patients choose a new set of lenses, the in-house technicians get to work crafting them in the shop?s own lab rather than sending them off to be made during a summer camp?s arts and crafts day. Sundry designer frames border eyes in looks from Giorgio Armani and Marc Jacobs to Nike and Harley Davidson, and there is usually a trio of technicians in the shop, enabling multiple clients to summon help with a single pigeon call.
Walking through O Jewel is like traveling across a rainbow. All of the vibrant jewelry and accessories in the shop have been arranged by color, helping patrons quickly find the necklaces, earrings, or cuffs they need in vivid orange, elegant blue, or sophisticated black.
On one table, bracelets encircle mannequin arms with spiraling red jewels. At another, a choker necklace that looks like a leopard catching its own tail casts a glittering emerald eye upon those wandering past. The pieces range from the luxurious to the ostentatious?some necklaces, for example, have pendants shaped like a large dollar sign or letters that exclaim "BOSS." A selection of handbags, wallets, and tiaras also sport gems, and hairpins take on cute shapes such as shimmering butterflies and baby Abe Lincolns.

In Lafleur Nurseries & Garden Center’s expansive outdoor garden, informative placards give names to a busy jungle of plants and trees. A sweet scent drifts from jasmine plants, roses burst open colorfully, and the wide white blooms of magnolias sway like the dresses of southern belles. Honeysuckle and bleeding heart cover the nursery's verandas, and raspberries and grapes ripen in the sun. Over the sound of birds singing, trained garden techs can be heard giving planting advice and landscaping estimates for sod and pond installations. Patrons can also ask them for irrigation suggestions or help building a wall to keep furry animals from foraging in their home garden or putting the satisfying last piece in a jigsaw puzzle.
