In an effort to create violence-free homes, Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center (CAPC) works to stop the generational cycle of child abuse. Through in-home visits and mental-health counseling, it teaches at-risk families how to replace parenting that may lead to abuse and neglect with healthy, positive parenting styles, promoting self-sufficiency and nurturing parent-child relationships.
CAPC caseworkers use 14 intervention-style programs to alleviate family stress and eliminate negative parenting techniques that could lead to child abuse. They work with high-risk families to promote positive parenting with infants and toddlers, teach teens about healthy dating choices, and reach out to families in which abuse is suspected. Parent-to-parent workshops connect families to help them learn from one another, whereas in-home mental-health services and crisis stabilization for suicidal or homicidal children help reduce violence in already fractured homes.

The Orange County Ronald McDonald House provides low-cost, comfortable lodging for families with seriously ill children who are receiving medical care in Orange County hospitals. Each family staying at the house has a private room and bath, and can access shared areas including a fully stocked kitchen, laundry room, and lounge areas. Although the actual cost for a family to stay for one night is approximately $150, families are asked to pay $10 per day—though no one is turned away due to an inability to pay. Housing costs are largely funded by donations.
