Art ranks among the highest achievements of any world culture, and The Bowers Museum of Cultural Art aims to enrich our own by sharing some of the finest works from Native American, Polynesian, African, East Asian, and South American cultures. The museum’s vast collection—and buzzing calendar of new exhibits and special events—has earned it a decades-long streak as the Orange County Register’s pick for Best Museum in Orange County.

  • Size: 93,000 square feet featuring more than 120,000 examples of pottery, stone tools, jewelry, wooden sculptures, and clothing
  • Permanent Mainstay: A broad range of artifacts from the entire Pacific Rim, including the South Pacific, China, and early California
  • Visiting Exhibit: Chuck Jones: Doodles of a Genius celebrates the legendary Looney Tunes animator at his most creatively uninhibited with drawings from his private collection—many on public display for the first time
  • Hands-On Experiments: At the Kidseum, children can play musical instruments, dress in ethnic clothes and masks, and learn how to excavate artifacts
  • Eye-Catcher: the stucco-beamed glass ceiling of the museum’s courtyard restaurant, Tangata, which suffuses the French-accented California cuisine with natural light

Yadi Presents melds traditional burlesque with contemporary source material. Since the company's inception, performers with names like Meowberry Deathly, Lady Josephine, and Dolly Danger have conjured titillating, vaudevillian versions of Night of the Living Dead and Grease, and have even taken on the songs of Johnny Cash. Over the course of a single show, cast members shimmy out of their clothes, shake off their autumn leaves, play characters of opposite genders, and pay tribute to pop culture with equal amounts of kitsch and artistry.

Inside Chapter One: The Modern Local, high, lofted ceilings, geometric light fixtures, and chunky wooden furnishings complement Executive Chef David Martinico's menu of seasonal contemporary cuisine. Patrons clink glasses of handpicked brews or craft cocktails?such as the restaurant's signature moscow mule?as they dine on locally sourced produce and humane meat. Meals draw on flavors from across the globe: ?touf?e fries covered in spicy Cajun roux bespeak a New Orleans influence, and yakisoba stir-fries and a housemade sausage topped in kimchi import East Asian tastes. The Frank Sinatra?themed Sunday brunch pairs classic dishes such as brioche french toast with bacon-bourbon bloody marys and other creative drinks. Chapter One: the modern local also breaks up up the drudgery of the workweek with regular events such as charity bingo, jazz performances, and a fortnightly burning of uncomfortable business shoes.
