The G Spa's staff, guided by Dr. Kathleen Griffin, thwarts the ravages of time with spa medicine tailored for women's needs. Practicing for more than 25 years, Dr. Griffin possesses comprehensive knowledge of the female form and all that ails it, from PMS and menopause to body-image issues caused by the unrealistic standards set by hourglasses. Nurse practitioner Dianne Sandel handles all laser treatments, women's annual exams, and engineering medical weight loss programs while medical aestheticians Jill, Monica, and Izabella complement Dr. Griffin's internal care with skin and body treatments. Among various services, the duo plumps earlobes with dermal fillers, diminishes veins with sclerotherapy, and tightens skin with laser facials. Life coach Petra Beumer rounds out the spa's offerings, rooting out the emotional and mental blockages that prevent women from losing weight or achieving their goals. The team?s combined services earned them a place as finalist for Best Medical Spa in the Santa Barbara Independent in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Source Yoga's intimate class sizes and wide array of offerings for every ability level ensure a personalized yogic experience. Ninety-minute sessions, such as Yoga Basics and Gentle Yoga employ doable postures to improve strength and flexibility. Assorted Vinyasa disciplines forge a harmonious marriage between rhythmic breaths and flowing moves, and a one-hour Yoga Fitness course dials up heart speed, allowing full-body conditioning for races with heartless tin men. Precision posing forms the basis for Iyengar-style classes, which use props for both support and muscle training. The studio also caters to kiddo-size energy stores with children's yoga lessons, cultivating uncanny abilities to karmically attract every dessert at the lunch table.

Yasa Yoga?s name comes from the Sanskrit words for ?good-hearted,? a reflection of the studio?s noncompetitive, welcoming community of yogis and instructors. They gather to practice in a red-tiled, Mission-style building originally constructed in 1912. Husband-and-wife duo Ryan and Stephanie Besler lead a majority of the classes, accommodating students of all skill levels with a variety of yoga styles. During Yasa Basics classes, students absorb foundational yoga poses and breathing techniques in a naturally lit practice space with 20-foot arched ceilings. Yasa Flow yoga instructors crank up the room temperature to bolster flexibility and teach challenging, inverted moves during workouts suited to intermediate stretchers. Students also gather inside the building?Charlie Chaplin?s former home and production studio?for a variety of other classes such as prenatal, deep-stretch, and flow-style sessions.

Though each course strengthens core muscles and focuses the brain, students also calm their minds with meditation or revel in the camaraderie of like-minded classmates as they learn to control their breathing or tendency to constantly blurt out their credit-card numbers.

The owners of E-Bikes Santa Barbara believe that their city's lush parks, breezy boardwalks, and scenic streets are best seen by bike?and that it's even better if said bike is powered. A fleet of rental, late-1990s-model Lee Iacocca e-bikes speed along with throttle-activated 36-volt lithium-battery-powered electric motors, or let riders propel themselves by pedal. Bikes are equipped with padded seats and storage bags, and can travel up to 27 miles on a single charge. Meanwhile, a selection of bikes to accommodate all riders are available for rent, providing yet another way to explore the town.

Once a costumer for TV shows including House and Weeds, Tami Macala switched careers midstream when she discovered the art of creating mosaics, according to a Santa Barbara Sentinel profile. She started mosaicking everything from fireplaces to fountains to other, lesser mosaics, eventually landing high-profile projects at the Florida Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Arby?s restaurants.

After more than a decade of working as a professional mosaic artist, Tami opened the Santa Barbara School of Mosaic Art (SBSMA). At the school, Tami and guest artists from near and far teach how to trick out tables with colorful shingles, coax gently luminous Mexican smalti into intricate patterns, or fuse glass for even more complex designs. Students can pick up tools and tiles at the SBSMA supply store and drop by during lab hours to work on independent projects.

An ideal place for anybody looking for a slower-paced atmosphere that still offers plenty to do, Uptown Bar & Lounge seeks to serve as a neighborhood bar for all types. The recently renovated lounge is divided into distinct sections. A gleaming granite bar supports 12 taps and shelves full of high-end spirits, and visitors perched on leather chairs at high-top tables gaze at 13 flat-screen TVs broadcasting sporting events. Classy touches?an old-fashioned cash register here, a piano there?elevate the space from the typical sports bar.

Elsewhere, two red-felted pool tables are an outlet for the casually competitive, while a seating area appointed with sofas provides a refuge for guests who can't watch a shot clock count down without turning into a pumpkin at the buzzer. Also, parts of the bar are converted into a rousing music venue to host open-mic nights, DJ sessions, and live bands. The back patio, with its couches, fire pits, and additional TV, is a pleasant spot to enjoy a cool Santa Barbara evening, especially when you include a pizza cooked in the outdoor oven.
