Though Laser Eye Center has been around since 1986, its technology is nothing less than modern. Treatment rooms at the five surgery centers boast Allegretto Wave and IntraLase FS Laser systems, developed to reduce near and farsightedness, as well as astigmatisms and blinks stuck mid-morse code. But just as important as the technology are the surgeons, who have completed extensive training to pilot these systems and perform other sight-bolstering treatments. It's these factors that have helped surgeons, both past and present, perform over 200,000 vision-correction procedures.
In the early 1990s, Santa Clarita's city officials set out to establish a one-of-a-kind celebration of the area's cowboy roots in art, music, film, and beyond. The Cowboy Festival was unveiled in 1994 and every year since has showcased the city's rugged Old West heritage. These days, the annual weekend-long event draws more than 10,000 visitors through the doors at Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio where Western fans young and old revel in the sights, sounds, and scenery of life decades ago, all without the risk of getting caught between two dueling horses.
Of course, for most of the year the City of Santa Clarita is as modern as any Los Angeles suburb. Civic leaders take advantage of the region's plentiful, free sunshine to stage a variety of outdoor gatherings for residents and visitors, including concerts and public art projects the whole community can get involved in.
Making a cupcake from the Cherry Coke and pretzels you bought at a convenience store probably won't win you any prizes, but for Kim Thurman and Kim Aeck, it did. It was this combination (plus some licorice) that brought the duo the win when they appeared on the second season of the Food Network's Cupcake Wars. Together the two Kims run Bake You Happy, a labor of love born out of early-morning pre-workout conversations about baking, during which they'd trade recipes and share tips. Soon they joined forces and opened Bake You Happy—and from all the great press, they've garnered, it's safe to say they're on the right track. And that's not even to mention they were just named Best Cupcakes, Cakes, and Desserts 2013 by readers of The Signal. Their specialty is cakes, in many different forms: cupcakes, cake pops, cupcake jars, and custom cakes. All items are baked using high-quality ingredients, including dutch cocoa, butter, cream, and real vanilla bean. The menu of flavors includes more than 85 varieties.

Since 1992, Potato Corner has fascinated international crowds with its wholly customizable menu of crispy french fries, though franchises only broke ground in America during February of 2010. The new U.S. shops cropped up in places with lots of foot traffic, entrancing people with the scent of fresh-fried potatoes in malls, airports, theme parks, and at marathon starting lines. Potato Corner’s straight-, loopy-, and criss-cut fries come unadorned in their lightly salted glory, or they can be tossed in gourmet flavorings such as barbecue, cheddar, chili, and sour cream and onion. The shop has also expanded its repertoire to include baked potatoes, chicken tenders, and a butler who tucks cloth napkins into collars in order to sate customers in search of a full meal.
