  • Clouds
The artisan collections at Clouds include home decorations, bath and body products, and a selection of scented candles created with professional care and natural ingredients, guaranteeing quality. The familiar smells of living rooms or dens are complemented by the waxen aromas of Clouds' signature candles, which infiltrate noses with hints of lemongrass, lavender, mango papaya, and respect (prices start at $5 for a 3"x3"), or a Capri Blue volcano candle with tropical fruits, sugared citrus, and mountain greens ($28). A set of Votivo vanilla grapefruit aromatic burning sticks sends out airy blends of tropical leaves, vanilla beans, and tangy fruit juice when set afire ($12 for 20 sticks), like most area rugs. Garden mint shea butter soap keeps hands frothing at the palms with a French-milled lather ($8), and a teak coaster set prevents cups from staining tables with their sweats ($18 for a set of four).

  • Urbanic Paper Boutique
Wedding invites that resemble concert tickets. Journals hidden behind a vintage-style cover of Goethe’s Faust. These are just a few of the ways Urbanic Paper Boutique breathes new life into cards and stationary. The idea for the shop sprung from the husband-and-wife team of Audrey Tantaros and Joshua Woolen, a couple who fell in love over handwritten letters. They canvassed the stationary world to line their shelves with unique, modern cards for all occasions—including eco-friendly versions made with soy ink and sustainable materials. In addition to producing custom invites and stationary, they pad their shelves with gift ideas such as sea salt candles, patterned pens, and old-fashioned pencil sharpeners.

  • Soaptopia
The first thing to notice at Soaptopia in Mar Vista is, predictably, the racks and racks of homemade soaps. But the second thing will definitely be the medley of scents; rich lavenders, crisp mint and citrus zests fill the air, as bars with off-beat names like Bub Marley and Petalmint Patty each give off their own fragrance. Each of these soaps are made on sight, from a small kitchen adjacent to the boutique soap company’s main retail floor. That’s where you’ll find more than just those scented soap bars; Soaptopia also carries lotions, creams and massage candles, with various products lining the walls to entice customers. The various combinations of scents and soaps available also make Soaptopia a strong option for indecisive shoppers looking to put together gift baskets for loved ones – or maybe for themselves.

  • Verabella
Though VERABELLA's skincare products have since found their way onto the faces of celebrities including Kristen Bell, Vanessa Hudgens, and Kerry Washington, they started as simple family recipes. Vera inherited her skill for inventing remedies from her mother and grandmother in Russia. She recorded what natural ingredients they sourced, and how they mixed them into masks that would combat everything from blemishes to dry skin. Today, she shares those time-honored concoctions at VERABELLA Skin Therapy Spa. She and her daughter Victoria, the spa director, continue to reject parabens, artificial scents, and dyes in favor of organic aloe vera, tea tree oil, grapefruit, cucumber, and other natural components. Formulated for all skin types, these treatments help to minimize break-outs and diffuse visible signs of biological and environmental aging. Its treatments also incorporate high-tech advancements, including lifting microcurrent facials that the menu calls "Pilates for the Face." Likewise, VERABELLA cosmetic products have been built to impress. The Lip-Lights line, for example, is flush with illuminating colors that include Stop-Light (real red), Afternoon Delight (sheer sparkly berry), Sunlight (warm coral), and Twilight (blood red).

  • Vaksberg Salon
LaPeer Beauty was one of the first salons graced by Irene Vaksberg's eye for style after she emigrated from Russia in 1979. She left it to open Vaksberg Salon, which made its home in the 1950s-era locale of Penny's—Los Angeles's first beauty school—replete with its old-fashioned hood hairdryers and radioactive pomade. In 2007, Irene's salon journey came full circle when she sold the historic location and moved Vaksberg Salon back to her original stomping ground at LaPeer Beauty. Today, Vaksberg Salon not only gives ladies a place to wind down and doll up with cuts, color services, and conditioning treatments, it also helps raise money for local charities such as Kids With A Cause, Arthritis Foundation, People Helping Homeless, and AIDS Walk.
