Cirque Style Fitness’ founders, Ivo Gueorguiev, a former Cirque du Soleil acrobat and director, and Jill Hansen, an aerial performer and Pilates instructor, draw from a combined 60 years of experience in leading aerial workouts. They lead students of all fitness levels—no previous gymnastics or dance experience required—through their high-flying routines. Students ascend toward the ceiling, winding a bolt of silky fabric around their arms and calves, using techniques from gymnastics, Pilates, and how to crochet in midair. Instructors also delve into ballet techniques and on-the-ground circus routines to help pupils to improve their coordination, strength, and alignment.
New Wave LA is a multi-date, multi-venue event that encompasses four original works. Pick up a ticket to each of the performances to experience the whole kit and caboodle. The tickets will be in the D-level seating area of each venue and will be issued in e-ticket fashion prior to the show. The Los Angeles Ballet is a group of two dozen gazelle-esque dancers who fling themselves across genres and around the stage like marionettes controlled by heartstrings. See this renowned company move to the body music of the latest, greatest, and most unexpected choreography from LA's own Josie Walsh, plus Sonya Tayeh, Travis Wall, and Mandy Moore of So You Think You Can Dance fame.
MNR Dance Factory—previously Molly & Roni's Dance Factory—has been providing a home for dancers for 20 years. The academy describes itself as a place "Where Dancers Grow Up," and helps budding young beginners and competitive dancers alike develop their skills in styles that include ballet, jazz, tap, and aerial arts in an airy, mirrored studio.
The classes are led by an experienced staff with a number of professional credits to their name—the studio's instructors have worked for the likes of Grey Goose, Chevrolet, and the movie Dreamgirls. And those teachers' work ethic and passion don't end when a shoot wraps and cameras transform back into pumpkins. Instead, when they pirouette into MNR Dance Factory, they enthusiastically redirect their energy toward the teaching of new artists.
The husband-and-wife duo behind Magicopolis, by now seasoned television guests thanks to frequent praising press, delight and surprise audiences with their Broadway-style magicomedy stage show Escape Reality. The 90- to 120-minute spectacle features original takes on classic magic enigmas, demonstrating dangerous escape acts and on-stage levitation, a skill first used during dunks at Salem all-star basketball games. Eye-popping feats are punctuated with engaging music, comedy, and audience participation, including mind-boggling mind-reading demonstrations. Magicopolis is an especially up-close-and-personal affair, and unlike Hollywood films, where the actors are trapped behind an impersonal screen, the Magicopolis magicians make lasting connections with their gaping guests. Great for unawkward first dates that leave the parlor tricks to the pros, a visit to Magicopolis is a singular entertainment outing. Call to make a reservation.
