California's natural resources have defined the state's history and evolution, from the gold hiding in the hills to the oil bubbling just under the earth's surface. The California Oil Museum tracks the history of petroleum within California's borders, starting with the fossilization of organic matter. Then, through a series of interactive displays, videos, games, and restored gas station memorabilia, the museum's exhibits peel away the millennia. Visitors can relive the glorious early days of roadsters and highways through the vintage gas pump exhibit, or try their hand at old-fashioned oil siphoning with the restored turn-of-the-century cable tool drilling kit. The museum gives plenty of reasons to return, with rotating exhibits on science and history.

While Rhythm Earthsong's piano career is measured in decades—four of them, to be exact—his love for the instrument can only be measured in centuries. In the time since he first started tickling the ivory at the age of six, he's immersed himself in more than 300 years of piano history, listening and playing everything from Bach and Beethoven to Bill Evans and Dave Brubeck. After graduating from piano conservatory, he took to tuning and repairing pianos in his twenties, calibrating the hammers and replacing the strings on every kind of piano imaginable, except those cartoonishly suspended over busy city sidewalks. Along the path between these early projects and his current role as the sole proprietor of Earthsong Piano, he's found himself in the recording dens and on stages alongside some famous clients, including Elton John, Count Basie, Andre-Michel Schub, and Dave Brubeck.

A modern cowboy steps through the swinging doors of the saloon, eyes narrowed, searching for any sign of movement. Though the saloon stands amongst similar wood-hewn structures, this is no Old West town?just a very realistic simulation on one of Stryker Paintball & Airsoft's six paintball fields. Players also compete at airsoft here, on a field populated by bunkers and sheds in an urban militarized zone. While the park welcomes players for open play, it's set up well for parties too, with a clubhouse and private areas that can host up to 300 guests.
