Every four to five weeks, Improv Comedy Underground puts on an unscripted, interactive show filled with spontaneous jokes and side-tickling chortles. Each show consists of a group of improvisational performers who participate in a series of wit-testing games led by a host and audience suggestions. Because of the on-the-fly nature of the hour-long shows, the content isn't always predictable and may contain adult language and humor, so it's not recommended for young children or stoic philosophers in the midst of vision quests.
Taste Wine Bar provides oenophiles with a variety of wines in a relaxed atmosphere. Both the bar and shop's menus feature unique listings and change seasonally, much like the shape of the moon, which usually resembles a large maple leaf by the time autumn rolls around. Popular bottles from the shop include the Black shiraz ($24.99) and Arabella chardonnay ($10.99), while many aficionados appreciate the Silver Oak cabernet ($115.99) in pricier stead. At the bar, glasses of house wine (Salmon Creek, $6),14 Hands ($9) or Ramey or Rombauer ($15) come in cabernet, chardonnay, and merlot. Taste also offers beers and mixed drinks for the grape-averse.
Pasta Artistica peddles a plethora of Pappardelle's, with more than 100 pasta selections including dried noodles, stuffed pastas, and fresh-frozen sauces for take-home preparation. Half-pounds of dried pasta ($4.50) come in a host of flavors including lemon pepper, chipotle black bean, and whole-wheat garlic, as well as a battalion of shapes, including orzo, tagliatelle, and pappardelle. Sauce up an Italian dish with a jar of fresh-frozen pesto ($6.50), or stain an arch nemesis's new carpet with a jar of thai peanut or tomato vodka sauce ($9). As with people, the best traits of the hand-stuffed ravioli ($8–$14) are on the inside—savor the flavorful personality of the shrimp scampi ravioli or the spicy Italian-style buffalo.
The flower tamers at Cleveland Florist have been crafting artful bouquets for five decades. All Around The House's showrooms teem with 5,000 square feet of fine consignment furnishings, antiques, and a variety of works from local artists. Shoppers can wander amid antique and contemporary furniture pieces ($25+), selecting chairs, couches, and wardrobes to accent their homes or barricade front doors against persistent Girl Scout cookie salesmen. A variety of lamps ($10+) flood households with light, and the shops' exclusive Home Sweet Home soy candles ($10+) emit uplifting aromas. The stores also offer painting services to help clients enliven old furniture or paint over the Kiss lyrics they once sharpied onto their armoires.
