Cliff Wright teaches guitar along with Greg Norris, who played on the Grammy-nominated album World Jazz by Lara & Reyes and conducts jazz clinics and master classes at many San Antonio–area high schools. Brazilian-born piano savant Nayara Megarity teaches scales, octaves, and chords, specializing in music's empathic intensity.

This deal is good for any four- or five-course class that is regularly priced at $50. Upcoming gastronomic jam sessions with you and a gourmandizing guru include a May 4 summer seasonal themed class from chef RC Lumpkin—where you'll master roasted garlic soup, pan-sautéed haricot vert, and grilled peaches with honey—as well as an all-Asian delight kapow-wow with Dorothy Huang, who will help you master the intricacies of chicken and coconut-milk soup, sweet and sour shrimp, and three-mushroom lo mein. Of course, you get to eat everything you make, so be sure to bring your own wine or equally classy Capri Sun to Hollandaze Gourmet.

In addition to giving youngsters hands-on exposure to culinary techniques, kitchen safety, eating etiquette, and table setting, the academy's philosophy ensures that kids like 10-year-old former veggie-hater Camille gain an appreciation for healthy homemade cuisine. With centers in more than 10 states, Young Chefs Academy enriches growing minds ages 3–18 with engaging cooking classes, camps, and birthday parties that impart valuable life skills, such as self-reliance and how to trick a younger sibling into doing the dishes.

At The Royal Canvas Painting Parlor, owner Cassie Black and her staff of art instructors teach painters of all skill levels to create canvas-bound masterpieces. Each class blurs the line between artistry and social interaction, like when Leonardo da Vinci would bring the Mona Lisa to parties as his date. The focus falls on a predetermined painting composition, ranging from a quirky, cartoonish sheep for children’s classes to re-creations of iconic works such as van Gogh’s The Starry Night to challenge more adept artists. While students follow step-by-step instructions, they sip wine, nibble snacks, and rediscover their creative side.
