Also hitting the podium with a full quiver of sewing needles will be brand-identity expert David Tyreman, scheduled to speak on his experiences catapulting such brands into stardom as Nike and Polo.
Early-morning light twinkles on the ocean’s surface and envelops Lee-Ann Watanabe and her troupe of dedicated boot campers on Ala Moana Beach. Watanabe gives the go-ahead and campers charge, leaving the turquoise waters behind them as they sprint the sandy expanse before them. This is a common scene at 2CW HI boot camp.
A former coach potato turned triathlete, Lee-Ann Watanabe knows what it takes to get in shape. Drawing on her supportive yet tough demeanor, she motivates groups through intense cardio and resistance training at the above-mentioned beach, in Kaka'ako Park, or within Studio X, earning her business features in Midweek and other local publications. Every workout, she changes up the routines—which draw heavily from functional exercises and plyometrics—to prevent muscles from becoming bored and absent-mindedly ingesting a whole box of Twinkies. Dedicated to helping exercisers of all experience levels, she scales her workouts to match individual goals, working to ensure all participants benefit equally.
Team Move's instructors specialize in private and group training sessions. The collective—which takes its name from the motto "motivating others via exercise"—offers group fitness classes such as yoga and its signature Move camp. Routines are supplemented by equipment, such as resistance bands and weighted balls, for best results. All classes are held outside in the park.
Fitness experts Marc and Sara Zimmermann boast an impressive background. He is a former professional soccer player and certified personal trainer, yoga teacher, nutritional counselor, and sports-rehabilitation instructor. She began formal dance training at the age of 4 and is a registered yoga teacher, dance teacher, and reiki master. Together, they guide students through yoga poses, prenatal exercises, and boot-camp classes while outdoors among a herd of grazing palm trees. Additionally, personal training sessions help clients achieve their fitness goals, whether it is losing a few pounds or learning to walk on their hands.
At locations throughout the world, Egan's Fit Body Bootcamp instructors, including owner and world champion in multiple sports Egan Inoue, share a common goal: to guide clients toward their fitness and weight-loss goals through regimented training programs. Trainers lead group workouts that integrate cardio with resistance training, strength training, and light alligator wrestling. They design the workouts to be time efficient and varied, avoiding workout plateaus that may leave clients uninspired. In addition to motivating clients to work their bodies, trainers also empower them with healthy eating guidelines.
Eddie Clattenburg, always a fitness aficionado, competed on sports teams throughout his childhood and adolescence before studying exercise science at Arizona State and playing for their football team. When injuries forced him to end his football career, he resolved to stick with his passion by coaching and training. He successfully sought certifications as a personal trainer, a CrossFit Level 1 trainer, and a Level 1 Sports Performance coach while training more than 10,000 clients.
Today, Clattenburg continues to help students improve their physical fitness during personal training sessions and classes held in his own private training studio. E C Fitness's 2,400-square-foot facility abounds with TRX suspension training machines, medicine balls, and Olympic platforms, along with fully equipped locker rooms and showers. Clattenburg personally leads private training sessions, tailoring each of his lessons to accommodate the student's personal goals, whether they seek weight loss, enhanced sports performance, or muscle training. Throughout the week, intimate groups of up to 12 students sweat through high-intensity Warrior classes that last an hour each, which is as long as it takes to whittle a totem pole with a butter knife.
