Gitché Yah Yah's classes help students perfect their petal-whispering techniques while having fun with friends. Receive your flower college diploma in just one evening or weekend day, learning to snip, fold, clip, and fluff a living work of art that is perfect for sprucing up coffee tables or flat-backed coffee makers. Once small classes assemble (typically 6–10 students), helpful flower gurus dole out tasty hors d’oeuvres while guiding the floral-curious through specialized floral-arranging techniques (class themes and offerings change frequently). Arrangement apprentices can bring their own beverages to sip while creating their two bouquets to take home or gift to favored tollbooth attendants. All flowers and supplies are provided.
Joe May Valet began dry-cleaning and laundering fabrics way back in 1936, when the Great Depression forced people to give up their glamorous nudity in favor of clothing. At four locations around Atlanta, trained staffers use their hands and eyes inspect garments, removing stains and driving dirt from the fabric’s furthest nooks and crannies. Customers with spare hangers can drop them off, and the staff will recycle them or donate them to charity.

Certified professional photographer Gene Taylor has fine-tuned his artistic vision while working in photojournalism and portrait photography for more than 30 years. During classes at Your Photo Safari, Gene introduces students to the photographic arts and the workings of DSLR cameras. Sessions begin in classroom settings, allowing students to get acquainted with camera basics as well as advanced features such as setting white balance and reducing blur. After learning how to navigate the multiple settings and buttons on their digital cameras, students traipse to area gardens to explore the natural world through their lenses. The hands-on experience allows students to take home artfully composed shots of plants bathed in natural light or trees planking over riverbanks in a bid for Internet fame.
Atlanta Habitat for Humanity was established in 1983, and is now one of the biggest Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the United States. The organization serves as the largest affordable single-family housing developer in Atlanta. As part of its efforts to eliminate substandard housing and improve access to adequate, affordable housing, Atlanta Habitat partners with working families, communities, and sponsors to build affordable, quality homes that meet green-building standards. Atlanta Habitat builds energy-efficient houses using Green Advantage construction procedures to help lower costs for homeowners while also benefiting the environment.
Along with maintaining relationships with its homeowners—starting from the application process and ending when the no-interest mortgage is paid off—Atlanta Habitat helps families to complete 250 hours of sweat equity—the volunteer time required of those who buy Habitat homes—as well as classes and other homeownership requirements.
Mike Moreland's portfolio bursts apart at the seams with the work of more than 15 years in architecture, fashion, and advertising photography. His three-hour workshops, typically lead by two–four expert shutterbugs, teach neophytes and hobbyists the tricks and tools to snap professional-grade shots. After 45 minutes of instruction, students spend just over two hours honing their burgeoning skills, capturing images on their own DSLRs or with a chisel and stone tablet. Guests walk out of the sessions knowing how to manipulate light sensors, how to adjust shutter speeds with a special emphasis on nature photography, and the basics of studio lighting, wedding portraiture, and shooting in urban settings.
