Winners of the 2010 Southern Professional Hockey League President’s Cup, the Huntsville Havoc face a new season of fast-paced puck-handling and loyally rowdy fans. With a reputation for playing inevitably exciting hockey, center Glenn Detulleo, goalie Dan McWhinney, and the rest of the team use their collective talent to propel the game, rather than resorting to marathon body checks or diabolical mind games. Mezzanine seats give fans a comprehensive view of every smoke-trailed slap shot, pulchritudinous power play, and wild zamboni stampede. Bring a lifelong hockey fan or your second head along for a night of intense fun as you watch the Havoc express-mail presents to the nets of the Surge, Riverhawks, or Ice Bears.
The professional instructors at Cadence School of Music spread the joys of playing music to students of all ages with one-on-one private lessons. Students can focus on an instrument—including guitar, drums, and various woodwinds and brass—or concepts such as music theory and composition.
Musicology School of Music offers lessons in dozens of instruments, from guitar to mandolin and singing to trombone. Instructors hold classes in 12 private teaching studios, each built with sound-proofing materials to enhance privacy and concentration. Of course, part of a full musical education is learning to play with others, so the music experts also hold larger gatherings in their group classroom and recital hall.
They focus on multiple aspects of the musical process, providing amps, full drum kits with pads, and other accompaniment instruments. They also teach students the art of recording music, incorporating various types of music-mixing and playing software throughout their program.
Scott LaFlamme of LMI Studio passes down more than 20 years of music-industry experience through instrument lessons, songwriting and composition classes, and studio sessions. Aspiring musicians of all levels can take lessons in guitar, bass, drums, piano, and vocals.
Baby signing classes, based on the Signing Time Academy curricula, teach pre-speech tots ages 3 and under how to effectively convey feelings of hunger, thirst, exhaustion, and insistent desires to ride the dog around the block like a pony. Board-certified music therapist Megan Taylor teaches the 45-minute classes, which are scheduled on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The classes must be taken within the same four week series, as each class builds on the previous class. By broadening vocabularies, the classes bring parents and children closer together, reducing frustration and facilitating existential dialogues. Groupon holders also enjoy a 5% discount on Singing Time Academy flash cards, DVDs, and associated accessories.
Weak cognitive skills can make it difficult for students to fully grasp and understand concepts, even after extensive tutoring and reteaching. LearningRx's brain-training programs aim to strengthen those skills so students can improve their capacity to learn.
At the center, assessment tests are given first to seek out areas that need more work and determine which brain-training programs are suitable for the student. Then LearningRx's experts work with students one-on-one to give them immediate feedback and encouragement to overcome their challenges. The center welcomes children and adults of all ages, as well as visitors with attention disorders, autism, and dyslexia. The brain-training sessions can also help participants gain a competitive advantage in college or in their careers.
