My Petting Zoo LLC offers children and adults alike the chance to interact with a variety of gentle animals. Miniature goats, a mini horse, and a pony named Riley cavort among rabbits, chickens, ducks, and potbellied pigs. Customers are welcome to visit the animals at a farm, or request a mobile visit that brings the animals to parties, events, schools, or homes.
In 1975, Jay Kogan's parents opened up a store that was literally a hall of frames—just a small store stacked with thousands of frames. At the time, they had no idea that that tiny corridor would expand to 12 locations throughout the greater Phoenix area, all still run by the Kogan family. Today, their shops have more than 4,500 custom frame options along with mats of all colors and textures, as well as seven glazing choices and expert assembly. They can answer framing questions and frame everything from documents and artwork to posters and small 3-D objects such as sports memorabilia and very still grandmothers.
When they custom-produce frames, the family cuts their mats exactly, miters frame corners precisely, and installs flawless glass. Or, since the stores' walls are lined with ready-made frames, customers can walk in and find what they're looking for quickly. Since installing framed art is an art unto itself, they also offer hanging services with an eye for placement and ability to install in difficult spaces.
At RoxStar Fitness, the choreographer, performer, and Pilates guru Natasha Brown transforms dance routines into high-energy workouts where women can have fun while getting in shape. She pulls dance moves from many genres?rock, pop, hip-hop, swing, and more?and ties them together in RoxStar?s calorie-torching classes. Besides providing a good workout, Natasha shares dance tips that students can put to good use while busting moves at a wedding or in the background of a White House press briefing. Clients can supplement spirited dance classes with flexibility- and strength-building sessions of yoga and Pilates, as well as one-on-one personal-training programs.
A man-made forest of native, drought-tolerant plants shamelessly gulps carbon dioxide from the air within Desert Foothills Gardens Nursery, a plant hub that also churns out pottery, fountains, sculptures, and more. Hundreds of varieties of plants vie for attention, from aloes and agaves to bougainvilleas and yuccas. Grace the top of your top hat with a one-gallon golden barrel cactus ($6), or grab a five-gallon purple prickly pear ($19) to accentuate the poolside. Various sizes of cardoons, saguaros, and white Argentine giants are also available.
Since opening the barn doors back in 1984, Twisted Tree Farm's training facility has both fostered champion riders and horses and helped beginning equestrians first climb into the stirrups. Owner Janet Hischer began her own riding career at the age of 9, and today she oversees an expansive ranch peppered with cacti and stone alleyways. Resident mares keep cool with misters and ceiling fans in the 27-stall stable, perfecting their novels while waiting patiently for buckaroos to take them into the exercise ring or out on the natural trails. Boarding, training, and grooming services keep serious riders' steeds healthy and happy, and year-round group or private lessons let students of all experience levels hone their skills. Between saddling sessions, visitors are welcome to relax with beverages in the cantina, where couches and Internet access envelop them in Southwestern comforts as the Arizona sunset lights up the sky.
Now in our 7th year, endorsed and presented by the award-winning producer Thunderbird Artists, the Arizona Fine Art EXPO is not just an event, but a destination. A whole day passes in what feels like minutes as our patrons leave inspired, educated and owners of a work of art!
