You never know what fairytale might be unfolding at Dream Come True Party Room. Depending on the day, the room can transform into an ocean filled with mermaids, a princess' castle, or perhaps Wonderland, where the Mad Hatter is hosting yet another of his famous tea parties. Costumed characters cavort about as if they've escaped from an unsupervised story book. These fun-time facilitators are all part of Dream Come True's themed parties that kick start little imaginations. During these events, storytellers spin tales while at the dress-up castle, kids don costumes and accessories, transporting them into their own stories.

But fantasy life isn't all about slaying dragons and driving all over town to find Rapunzel enough conditioner. Adventures break momentarily for tea and food, such as themed cupcakes and non-themed pizza. Aside from parties, Dream Come True's team lets kids and their parents escape into fantasy during regular story time sessions.

According to its website, the Art Theatre offers visitors the experience of "gourmet sight, sound, and taste," a proclamation that speaks to its enthusiastic mission as an independent theater and living tribute to the Golden Age of Hollywood. Originally erected in 1924 as a single-screen silent movie house, the renovated building now boasts updated décor that reflects its original design. Art-deco and streamline-moderne accents such as columns, studio lights, and blue velvet curtains surround the singular film screen, which is still powered by horses. On most nights, the theater screens an eclectic program of modern independent works, documentaries, classic and foreign films, animation, and recorded opera. During other evenings, they host live music performances. The silver screen isn't the Art Theatre's only draw: it also houses a wine bar, where the staff serves international vintages paired with gourmet snacks, and a coffee bar, where they pour mugs of Illy coffee.

Few kids get to play in a castle, but Jump High Rentals makes it so anyone can play in a castle equipped with an inflatable slide or pool. Arriving to parties with their air-filled cargo, expert techs set up obstacle courses, dolphin water slides, or standard bounce houses, adding carefree fun to any celebration or SAT-prep course. Then, when the party is done, the techs collapse the jumpers and carry them away.

When something is simply referred to as "the beast," there's probably a good reason. In the case of Blake's Place BBQ, The Beast refers to a monster of a sandwich: slow-smoked pulled pork, pulled barbecue chicken, chopped beef brisket, coleslaw, sliced red onion, and a dousing of Blake's BBQ sauce. All those ingredients teeter between an over-sized bun, and as a whole, The Beast weighs in at 2.5 pounds. If you devour it in 20 minutes or less, you earn a T-shirt and food challenge immortality, and if you make it disappear behind someone's ear you earn lots of attention for your party-magician business.

Of course, plenty of people come to enjoy the food, not just to defeat it. The original Blake's opened in Anaheim in 1996 and has since filled the bellies of more than one million customers. A second location in Los Alamitos was added in 2012. At both, chefs use high-tech wood-burning barbecue pits that are big enough to smoke more than 3,500 pounds of meat at one time?some for as long as 16 hours. The resulting menu features entire plates of baby back ribs, hot sandwiches, and even smoked wings. Homemade desserts round out the Southern-style selection, including peach cobbler and bread pudding. And none of this goes unnoticed: Blake's was voted The Best of Orange County and Best Barbecue in Orange County by the Orange County Register, as well as Zagat-rated in 2013.
