Their curriculum ranges from classic jazz, ballet, and tap-dance classes to more physically demanding barre and Zumba dance-fitness classes, which are viable alternatives when the nightclub dance floor is too crowded for you to do pushups.
Jazzercise is 60 minutes of cardio, strength training, and stretching that incorporates moves from hip-hop, yoga, Pilates, jazz dance, kickboxing, and resistance training with handheld weights. Dancing With the Stars multiple-champion Cheryl Burke is a big fan of Jazzercise's improvisational workouts, though luckily you won't need her dance moves to get the most out of your class. If you're prone to first-class jitters, though, you can review the basic moves online before you go. Expect to burn off up to 500 calories with each go-round.
Learn the nautical nuts and briny bolts of breathing underwater in this 45-minute introductory course, held in Rick's Dive 'N Travel Center's heated indoor pool. Equipment is included, allowing students to leave their personal underwater tuxedos at home. During the class, the facility's instructors, certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, will acquaint students with diving basics, underwater breathing know-how, and general scuba-related safety. Drip with relative weightlessness as you submerge yourself in nauti-knowledge, gaining the skills needed for your next dive for pirate gold in the Arkansas River.
Owned and operated by fitness consultant Kathleen Rea, Regeneration offers yoga, Pilates, yogalates, and cardio sculpt classes for keeping the body as close to its factory settings as possible. The yogalates class is the result of cross-breeding yoga and Pilates, both of which are also offered as separate classes, and is designed to maximize the body's muscle tone, improve its flexibility, and pour a fresh batch of strength into its core. During the cardio sculpt class, light weights and resistance training help tone bodies while increasing the odds of out-swimming an angry hippo. Walk-ins are welcome, but calling ahead is preferred.
