America Is Haunted, a company that has fear down to a science. That starts with the element of surprise, as each location holds its own secrets and scares. Six terrifying mazes, eight mini-shows, more than 300 monsters, goblins, and ghouls including larger-than-life rats, spiders, and gargoyles, as well as interactive experiences, gory vignettes, and costumed actors await throughout each attraction. The escorted journey may begin with a disorienting, technicolor maze where each turn brings guests face to face with some new horror. Other locales might include a maximum-security prison where the inmates run wild or a grocery store where the cereal is all the healthy kind.
Savor Seattle's founder, Angela Shen, heads a knowledgeable staff of devout gourmands, who pilot culinary walking excursions that have earned abundant accolades from the likes of Bon Appetit, USA Today, and Sunset magazine. The guides brandish Savor Seattle's signature pink umbrella during the informative tours, which grant anywhere from 12 to 16 pedestrians access to tastings of fresh, seasonal, and organic fare at up to nine local eateries. Neighborhood outings allow tour-goers to sample the flavors of favorite spots, such as Capitol Hill and Pike Place Market, without the hassle of going door-to-door asking for samples of homeowners' dinners. Themed jaunts spotlight specific culinary heavy hitters, such as gourmet restaurants and chocolatiers. At every pit stop, chefs and restaurateurs divulge behind-the-scenes stories and recipes, and can modify samples to fit dietary restrictions.
Now a subsidiary of the Wing Luke Asian Museum, Chinatown Discovery Tours offers almost a dozen 90-minute tours of Seattle’s Chinatown each week. The pleasant outdoor strolls trace the arrival of the Chinese in the 19th century, their struggles and enduring culture. There’s no shortage of tidbits to pick up, thanks to Seattle’s expansive mix of Asian cultures, and some tours even include stop-offs at great and tasty Chinese restaurants.
