  • Red Frog Events
In addition to the sense of perseverance and accomplishment that comes with finishing a 5K, the organizers of the Bacon Chase have added another incentive: bacon. During their two races?the 5K Piggy Pilgrimage, which is a traditional 5K, and the 0.05K Blitz to Bacon, which is a 164-foot sprint?runners can munch on unlimited bacon bits before feasting on unlimited amounts of bacon at the finish line. Runners 21 and older can wash down the savory strips of bacon with a bloody mary, and all runners get a Bacon Chase T-shirt and a signature bacon-scented bib. The festival opens at 8 a.m. and features many bacon-themed activities, plus music. The festive day serves a greater purpose, too. Attendees will be able to register to become a St. Jude Hero, raise money for St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, or both.

  • Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Now in its 34th year, the Shore Run/Walk lets legs sprint or saunter to raise funds for immunotherapy research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Opt for a 5K race starting in Leschi Park or a 10K jaunt beginning in Ferdinand Park. During each event, runners move their bodies' natural stilts through a scenic course and soak up views of Lake Washington. Though not included in this Groupon, there's also a half-mile kids' run ($10 for registration) that allows little ones to exercise muscles for a length of time directly proportionate to their attention spans and shoe size. All races begin in the morning and conclude in Madison Park with snacks, music, prizes, and high-fiving of weary feet.

  • National Veterans Day Run
The National Veterans Day Run aims to serve as a nationwide demonstration of support for veterans and the men and women currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. Currently, the event includes organized races spread across 15 cities in early November, all united under a common cause. Across the country, these events can include a one-mile walk, a 5K and 11K race, and a half marathon, depending on the city. Proceeds will be used to allow veterans and active-duty military personnel to participate in these races at reduced rates. For its 2014 event, the National Veterans Day Run has partnered with Operation Gratitude: a charitable organization that annually distributes more than 100,000 care packages to veterans, first responders, wounded warriors, caregivers, and active military personnel deployed overseas. Event coordinators encourage participants to support the efforts of this organization by pledging a donation during the registration process.

In addition, attendees can often participant in marathons, duathlons, and even enroll their pups in doggie dashes. Rather than challenge repeat runners with new courses, the series keeps its same courses every month so racers can measure their improvement. • Scavenger Dash
Generally, adulthood forces people to give up childish pleasures, robbing them of the joy associated with playing in puddles, unearthing hidden treasure, and being silly in public. The folks at Sierra Adventure Sports wants grownups to regress, if only for a day. That's where Scavenger Adventure Races comes in. The Amazing Race-like event pits multiple teams against each other in puzzle-solving and physical challenge events throughout the city. Teams traverse 5?8 miles, utilizing public transportation and their own feet before they hit the finish line, crown the winners, and head to the after-party.
