In ancient Greek mythology, Apollo was the god of music and one of the most popular sons of Zeus. His esteemed name now adorns Apollo Hair, Health & Beauty as a sign of the divine service clients receive. Guests can book time with a skilled stylist for voluminous layers, or a request a specialty facial to renew the complexion. The salon also offers an array of hair-replacement services that Medusa would have been wise to consider.

  • Hair by Graeme
Most professional stylists loathe cancelled appointments, but not Graeme Welsh. Graeme is a volunteer stylist at Seattle Children's Hospital, where a cancellation means his client has made a recovery––and that's always a good thing. In a recent Channel 5 feature, Graeme discussed the many silver linings of his hospital work, as well as the hurdles. "When I first started 15 years ago, it was just a chair amongst all the volunteers folding envelopes," says the native Australian. "I had a chair, and a mirror and a water spray and that was it." Today Graeme is in much better company. He has his own hospital room for styling, and is joined by several other stylists keen on his cause. What's more, some former patients have become recurrent clients, stopping in for a trim en route to their own hospital volunteer work. When not changing lives at the hospital, Graeme helms his own successful styling studio––Three Graces Salon, off 65th St. The space is as bright as his personality. Golden walls and wood floors beam with natural light as he infuses strands with bold highlights and frames haircuts to flatter his appreciative clientele.

  • Spa Envy
The employees of Spa Envy have a simple ambition: they merely want to sit their clients in tension-melting Shiatsu massage chairs and work on relaxing their minds and bodies. Talk about a formula for success! And if that weren’t enough, Spa Envy does more than seek to restore energy and soothe pained bodies; their services include hand and foot care treatments, a variety of waxing options and facial services, as well as tinting. The friendly, calm interior of this University District location makes each session a calming one, with dark wood trim, lots of natural lighting and black leather chairs that are as comfortable to look at as they are to sit in. There are discounts for first-time customers, though many getting massaged are longtime clients.

  • Aveda Caruh Salon
The staff at Aveda Caruh Salon knows what it?s like to want to bring your inner beauty to the outside. As their website says, ?We think our exterior of our building looks awful and are glad that ?beauty is on the inside.?? They may not be able to do much with the exterior, but owner Cyndi DeSoto and her salon and spa teams bring the beauty of their clients to the forefront with hair and skin services that use plant-based Aveda products and organic essential oils squeezed from delicate flower organs. Since it opened in 1988, the salon has not only expanded its space and gone from styling mullets to long layers and pixie cuts, it?s also been voted one of the Top 200 Salons in America by Salon Today magazine. It isn?t just the precision cuts and colors, clarifying facials, or muscle-soothing massages that make it a top salon; it?s also the exuberant spirit of the staff. On average, Caruh donates about $40,000 per year to local charities, and every first Thursday, the salon closes for three hours for the staff to meet, bond, and celebrate successes.
