Shortly after beginning her journey in the Pilates industry at the age of 18, Vanessa Pinkham moved to South Africa, where she mastered and taught the form's focused stretches, bends, and core-firming maneuvers. Though she witnessed the exercises' transformational results, she also noticed that students quickly grew bored performing the usual repetitive mat routines and wonted séances to summon the spirit of Joseph Pilates. To address this problem, she opened up her own studio in Tampa where she crafts signature classes that battle the monotony of traditional Pilates workouts. With modifications for injury rehabilitation and different fitness levels, she welcomes clients of all backgrounds to pursue toned tummies and leaner physiques.
Blending compassion, humor, and respect, the instructors at Surya Namaskar Yoga approach every class with the belief that yoga should be accessible to everyone. They guide students of all ages and skill levels—including athletes, seniors, and those with disabilities—along their own personal paths of growth, fulfillment, and well-being. Eschewing the popular notion that yoga is about exercise, they teach that yoga is about creating balance in the body through the development of flexibility and strength. This does not mean that they shun modernity, however. Between chants and inspirational readings, these spiritual instructors focus on healing their students' contemporary ailments, such as neck pain caused by computer usage and stress caused by worrying about the sun exploding. Their onsite massage therapists and healers further align mind and body, as well as foster spiritual awakening, with deep-tissue massages, holistic Pranic healing, and qi gong, a balance of Chinese medicine and martial arts.
Sunder Kaur first discovered yoga on her path to fulfill a lifelong dream: to find her true self. Now, as a certified yoga instructor, she strives to nurture her students' spirits while incorporating the scientific understanding of the human body she gained from her degree in pharmacy. With a friendly demeanor, Sunder and her team of over 30 instructors create a welcoming community as they lead students of all ages and abilities through asanas and breathing exercises that increase strength, flexibility, and balance. They teach these techniques during a variety of classes, including children's, prenatal, and hot yoga. Outdoor classes are available at A Yoga Village's Sunken Gardens location, allowing students to melt away stress while enjoying the fresh air. To further enrich their students' lives, the staff leads specialized workshops that emphasize meditation or improving household communication with storytelling, song singing, and game playing. These dedicated instructors also push budding yogis along the same noble path down which they boldly trod during teacher-training courses.
