On Woodside Nursery & Garden Center's 5-acre grounds, a sprawling greenhouse hosts seasonal, Long Island–grown florae. The nursery staff cultivates its own flowers, vegetable plants, and herbs onsite to oversee every facet of growth and read each plant its preferred bedtime story at night. With photos and measurements for reference, these green-thumbed experts will also help customers design lush landscapes free of charge. Woodside's stock changes with the necessities of the seasons, with sundry flowers in the springtime, pond fish in the summer, pumpkins in the fall, and Christmas trees and wreaths in the winter.

At Icon Aviation Group, flying instructors put four kinds of light sport aircraft to good use training future pilots of all ages, young and old, for private pilot's licenses, instrument ratings, commercial flight instructor ratings, and airline transport ratings. Pilots-in-training log hours in the cockpits of a Piper Warrior, Beechcraft Baron B-55, Mooney M20E, and Aeronca 7AC, with access to all the instruments and gauges needed for eventual solo flying. The aviation school couples its in-air instruction with classroom learning back on solid ground, where pupils can safely build confidence under the guidance and command of experienced pilots and work on honing their cabin-announcements voice.

Deer Park Community Center runs on the belief that children should remain active and use their imaginations. So, the facility organizes a full slate of athletic and cultural programs as an alternative to other popular forms of entertainment, such as playing video games and trying to sell annoying siblings on eBay. The DPCC offers activities that satisfy a wide range of interests. Youngsters can spark up competition with games of volleyball, basketball, and dodgeball, or get their creative juices flowing during theater performances and age-appropriate dances.

In the spirit of TV scavenger-hunt races and exploring local cities in a new way, the team behind Urban Scavenger Race organizes hunts designed to support neighborhood businesses and raise money for the Stamford and New Haven communities. Before each four-hour race, teams of two to four people or very human-looking robots arrive early to sign in and show off their family-friendly costumes to judges, who will select a winning getup. Upon receiving a clue sheet, teams venture into the city, using only public transportation, smartphones, and the kindness of strangers to track down the locations hinted at in the clues. Teams have to acquire a stamp or take a group photo at each destination, making sure to return to the sponsor site before time is up. Afterward, participants aged 21 and older get a wristband for an after party that includes drink specials and snacks.
