During any class, motivational instructors will use the instinctual distrust of routine to their advantage. Begin a day of litigating with a refreshing early-morning boot-camp session, or wind down by burning evidence and pounds with a late-evening yoga class. Muscles are kept guessing with new and challenging moves during each session, so participants never fall into a boring, ineffective routine, such as regular teeth brushing. In addition to the fitness classes, students receive a success guide to help prepare for imminent pound loss, a nutrition guide, and a $100 gift certificate for individual coaching. Because the pass sets a 5 or 10-class cap at any given location, roving fitness mavens can further shake up their workout regimens by vetting a series of classes or instructors that work best for them.

During Race & Seek, an extra phone battery in your pocket could easily be worth thousands of dollars. The urban scavenger hunt sends teams of 2–10 out into city streets in search of 14 clues, which they must capture via photo or video with their smart phones. The first-prize winners haul in some serious bounty: $500 and free entry into the Grand Championship, where $5,000 waits at the finish line.

But a slew of physical and mental challenges stand in the way of that money. Harder and harder clues come in via text and email, and as participants decipher them, they must navigate the city largely on foot—no cars, bikes, taxis, or griffins are allowed—with the aid of GPS and a city map.

The Learn to Run Clinic helps distance runners learn proper technique so they can cut down on their race times, avoid injuries, and reduce long-term bodily wear and tear. A certified CrossFit Endurance coach oversees the session's drills and runs, coaching beginner and intermediate runners in preparation for an upcoming race or a lifetime in the sport. The event encourages racers to dress creatively, awarding distinctive costumes such as old bridesmaid's dresses, team uniforms, or running shorts made from two miniature kegs. Proceeds benefit the MSBusters Support Group of Edgewater, a community organization that provides financial and emotional support for those living with multiple sclerosis.

"Running is such a beautiful metaphor for life,” Back on My Feet founder Anne Mahlum says on her organization’s website. “Life is about choosing different roads and our program teaches the importance of choosing roads filled with opportunity, hope and happiness.” Anna’s understanding of life and running intertwined and strengthened during her own daily runs. Every morning she would follow the same route, but despite her conditioning it began to take her longer and longer. This was because her route took her past a homeless shelter, and what began as jogging past without breaking stride turned into waving at familiar faces and then stopping to talk. Today, Back on My Feet is dedicated to the empowerment and self-sufficiency of underserved people. Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating independence and self-sufficiency within the homeless and other underserved populations by first engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. Through running, people experiencing homelessness gain community, self-esteem, and confidence alongside other people of all backgrounds. Anna’s efforts have led to a running club in Philadelphia and have since expanded to the Baltimore and Washington DC areas. The organization funds its cause by hosting events and races throughout the year, including various 5Ks, half-marathons, and The AT&T Sneaks Come Out at Night 15K & 3x5K Relay.
