Cozy up on a fleece-covered heated massage table, lose yourself in the soothing music coming from the Beats by Dre headset you're given, and inhale the fragrances from lavender or chamomile massage lotions?then feel the stresses of the daily grind fall away like a hopscotch champion on a tightrope walk. And that's not even including the massage. At A Nu Touch Massage, Shelly's goal is to foster escape and relief. She does that with the aforementioned perks and her soothing massage treatments, which include Swedish/relaxation combination massages. Shelly is a certified massage therapist as well as a hairstylist, and so she facilitates inner and outer beauty from her cozy studio.
As a licensed cosmetologist and massage therapist, Shelly at A Nu Touch works to make her clients both look and feel their best. Her designer haircuts can transform looks?especially when coupled with one of her signature double-process color treatments, virgin relaxers, or full sew-in extension applications. When not reviving hairstyles, Shelly applies her palms to tense necks and backs, alleviating stress with calming kneads or helping give bodies a boost of energy during invigorating massages.
Licensed cosmetologist Lauren Payten works wonders with natural hair at Naturally Me, where she specializes in flat twists, locks, sew-ins, and silk presses. However, she also helps clients treat chemically treated hair. They can come to have strands relaxed and eyebrows waxed or receive single-, double-, or triple-process color.
The hairstyling industry is always developing new techniques, which is why stylist Drea Campbell finds it so important to stay up to speed with continuing-education courses. At Situation Hair & Nail Salon, she bestows her clients with flattering looks with a vast array of services, including cuts, quick weaves, keratin treatments, and colorings. She also extends her salon savvy south of the hairline with eyebrow waxes, makeup applications, and mani-pedis.
Tell us about your business.
My name is Marsha T. Pipher and for the past 17 years, I have been a professional managing manicurist in prestigious spas around Northeastern Ohio. With my past experience, I was motivated and delighted to establish my own nail spa, Spa Parfairé, which means 'to perfect' or 'to complete' in French. My clients tell me that I am a perfectionist when I am servicing them, so I decided to showcase that behavior by creating a spa that will enhance their beauty by using "crème de la crème" products and techniques. I enjoy servicing my clients because I learn and become inspired by them everyday. I love what I do, not just because of its flexibility, but [because] it gives me a sense of taking care of someone and teaching them how to feel better about themselves. I believe in using excellent, top-notch, and natural products such as OPI, CND, Essie, SpaRitual, Phytocéane, Fléurs, Aveda, and Crabtree & Evelyn.
What is one of your signature services? How is it performed?
My signature service would be my spa pedicures. [I perform] the signature pedicure by [submerging] the client's feet...into a warm aromatic bath. [I then] shape toenails, remove loose cuticles, soften calluses, and exfoliate away dry skin. [I rehydrate]...skin, [give a] soothing calf and foot massage, and [apply] warm booties to penetrate emollients into their skin. [I] finish with their choice of OPI, Essie, or SpaRitual nail lacquer.
What steps do you take to make your clients feel at ease?
I like catering to my clients by making them feel comfortable during their service time. I believe in having a quiet, serene setting. I stimulate their five senses by playing relaxing music; having warm, soothing touches; aromatherapy scents; a healthy beverage of their choice; and creating a calm and beautiful atmosphere for them to view. I also try to remember interesting and unusual facts about my clients—lifestyle, career, personal life, hobbies—in order to make their service more enjoyable and personable.
