Stylists Beth Zimmerman and Michelle Lewin had a mutual dream, and with the opening of The Parlour Salon & Spa, that dream was realized. Together, they lead a team of skilled stylists, aestheticians, nail extensions, injection specialists, and eyelash extension specialists. Armed with products from Aquage, Sojourn, Novalash, Pevonia, and other top-notch brands, they help clients master troublesome cowlicks, rambunctious curls, flighty fly-aways, and eyelashes shorter than a cantankerous leprechaun.
Not only is Mimi Smith a licensed aesthetician and massage therapist, she also holds a prestigious international cosmetology accreditation and was a former esthetics instructor at a local college. Her dedication to top-notch pampering has led her to use organic skincare products during her facials, body wraps, and massage sessions, plus she also carries a selection of organic birthday suit balms in her boutique. Waxing services leave skin smooth from eyebrow to toe, while tinting services add definition to blonde or invisible lashes or brows.
Overhead spotlights cast their glow over the salon's leather furniture, as nearby floral paintings beckon wandering eyes with their autumnal reds and yellows. Amid these cozy accents, owner Jennifer Owen and her expert styling team use organic products to rewire hair circuitry with conditioning treatments, perms, and bold highlights. After soliciting a hair guru for a sleek up-do, guests may also request an airbrush spray tan, or a waxing session to remove fuzz from eyebrows or a barrel of peaches.

Certain hairstyles look good on certain facial shapes. When a client asks for a haircut you know will be a mismatch for them, how do you handle it?
Even if we do not mention it in the consultation, we are always looking at facial shapes and how best to tie in the hairstyle. Usually it is a little tweak here and there to make a hairstyle work, and we will have a two way conversation on how we are going to proceed for best results.
Part of being a good stylist is mastering the art of conversation. What are some pro tips for talking to strangers?
Sometimes it is [better] to listen than talk; however most hairstylist are people persons and like to talk a lot. We want to make sure we talk about your hair or lashes and make sure we are letting you know how to style it at home.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
We have a unique 16-chair salon on the second floor of our building that we treat as a loft space. We also have local artists display their work which changes periodically. We keep our prices at a comfortable mid-price point and high-quality, well-trained stylists. We have a 50-50 ratio of men and women clients.
At Bare Skin Spa, the staff’s chief philosophy likens your face to your physique; if you want it to appear firm and fit you'd better have a regular fitness routine—just as if you want your face to appear more youthful and healthy you’d better have a regular skincare regimen. Much like personal trainers, the staffers customize their services to suit various goals and body types. They draw from a lineup of products, including Éminence Organics, Dermalogica, and glo therapeutics, to combat skin ailments from acne to fine lines and incorporate natural ingredients, such as paprika, blueberries, and pumpkin, into their peels. Further beautifying their clients, they conduct waxing treatments and microcurrent facelifts, which strive to smooth away wrinkles without surgery or the hassles of ironing your face every morning.
With the spa's membership program, they take the gym analogy even further, rewarding participants with discounts and a monthly facial, peel, or microdermabrasion appointment.
