Q&A with Megan Thieman, Co-owner

Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
Each month we run a challenge to keep clients coming in, such as coming to class 25 times in one month to earn a free T-shirt. We change each class, so if you go to a specific class more than once that week, it will be different. Also, we have a variety of classes, so if our clients don't like one style, there are many more from which to choose.

Besides working out, what else can clients do to spend their time at your facility?
Free monthly measurements occur every month to show improvements and body change. We also offer help with nutrition guidance.

Do you run your gym according to a particular exercise philosophy?
We call ourselves a fitness boutique. We offer a variety of classes with fun, energetic, and motivational instructors that keep clients having fun and laughing while sweating and burning calories all in one awesome hour.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Sweat studio comes with a warning label: it becomes an addiction. We have a very welcoming environment and offer a variety of classes suitable for both beginning and advanced students.

At iRISE Performance, no two workouts ever have to be identical. Bootcamps and group classes spice up routines to add a social element to exercise, and rows of cardio equipment and weights allow individuals to progress at their own pace. But then the gym branches out beyond the expected. Two high-school-regulation basketball courts and one college-regulation court prompt pickup games before players step up to three powerlifting platforms to test their resolve. And anyone seeking to infuse their routine with functional-fitness moves can have a heyday in the turf room, where sleds, sandbags, a battling rope, and TRX equipment engage the core.

iRise Performance steps outside the gym too for a more holistic look at well-being. A fully functioning kitchen hosts cooking demonstrations and nutrition classes to help clients rethink their diet. And iRise also keeps exercisers from making up excuses or forging doctors notes for their trainers by giving them something precious: time. An onsite childcare room watches tots while parents and guardians blast their bodies in the gym.

Motivated by peer power and the intense instruction of an expert trainer, students shape up with a series of high-impact routines. A mixture of running drills, plyometrics, strength training, and fitness games keeps the program from getting dull. Borrowing from the techniques of firemen, Valeo stresses the benefits of teamwork and group participation. Groups meet at the Lakewood Middle School, Thomas Stoll Park, or Barry Platte Park. Whether clients want to change the way they look, live healthier, or recover from an injury, Experience Fitness's nationally certified trainers work tirelessly to aid them in their transformations. In addition to personal-training sessions, they specialize in small-group training, all of which are geared toward each person's goals and informed by comprehensive fitness exams and a health-history analysis.

Within the bright-blue confines of the gym, the trainers also lead group classes such as Fight Fit, a high-intensity martial-arts and boxing-inspired workout. In boot-camp sessions, they call upon everything from TRX suspension bands to kickboxing bags to keep bodies from getting bored and wandering off midworkout. Their Kid Fit classes use age-appropriate approaches to help kids as young as 6 years old kindle a lifelong love for fitness.
