Two dance floors provide the square footage necessary for detailed instruction and successful coed mingling. A private lesson can jazz up a first dance or provide a much-needed metaphor for a relationship. In addition to the private lesson, you get a Groupon-exclusive class. First-time Freds and Gingers can foxtrot around the room and meet, greet, and dip new friends. Started as a simple afterschool program in North Nashville, Moves & Grooves, Inc., has flourished into a multipurpose center offering dance lessons, music education, and youth mentorship. At the movement studio, Ms. Hunter imparts the precise movements of classical ballet and Mr. El teaches pop-locking moves. The center uses arts as a means to engage at-risk youth and, through partnerships with local schools and the mayor’s office, has forged many successful graduates in the process.
