Inside of Red Lotus' sleek modern interior?comprised of curved furniture, bright red walls, and glass partitions?chefs crank out equally modern and creative food. Specialty sushi rolls emerge from the angular back-lit sushi bar, with selections that include the spicy girl roll with seared pepper tuna and spicy salmon, and the shelton roll with grilled whitefish escolar. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, chefs prepare staples like General Tso's chicken and teriyaki beef, or pair hibachi entrees with fried rice, veggies, or noodles.
In 1981, lifelong Greenwich residents Mark Curtis and Chris Fisher traded in their business suits for sudsy sponges when they purchased Greenwich Car Wash. 13 years later, they renamed their business Splash to coincide with an innovative idea developed by the duo: wash the cars by hand while also using a conveyor to keep them moving rather than trying to coax them forward with candy. That approach was a huge hit, and soon, Splash began spinning off into additional locations.
Today, more than 15 Splash locations are peppered across the East Coast. What started as a humble two-man operation has grown into a franchise that employs more than 500 people and washes more than a million cars per year. At each location, cars receive the ultimate in pampering thanks to a list of services that includes hand washes, express washes, detailings, and oil changes. Despite such impressive growth, though, Splash remains true to its community-driven roots, working with more than 400 charitable organizations on an annual basis.
Led by Dr. Arnold Rivera and PA-C Scott Callahan, Dolce Vida Medical Spa's skilled staff performs high-tech skin and body rejuvenations alongside relaxing spa treatments. Light-based body-sculpting sessions, IPL skincare, and injectable solutions such as Dysport and Radiesse help patrons remain youthful without wearing their senior-class photo as a mask. Drawing from an apothecary of high-end skincare products from Éminence, SkinTherapeutic, and Revision Skin Care, aestheticians nurture façades with specialized masks, and massage therapists ease tension from torsos with hot stones, lava shells, frozen oven mitts, or bare hands.
During a job interview with a recent college graduate in 2010, business professional Scott Sokolowski decided to ask an easy question: ?Why aren?t you wearing a suit today?? When the candidate replied honestly, saying simply, ?I can?t afford one,? Sokolowski was inspired to help. He established Save-A-Suit, a nonprofit organization dedicated to one simple goal: helping young talent acquire appropriate, professional business attire for job interviews. Though these efforts are typically geared toward recent male and female college graduates who are often in their early 20s, Save-A-Suit also works with veterans of all ages to help them arrive at interviews dressed professionally.
Stockbridge's Gourmet Cheesecakes & Café's more than 45 varieties of cheesecake have won Connecticut Magazine's Best Cheesecake in Connecticut award for nine consecutive years and been featured in The New York Times. But even though its vast number of cheesecake and its selection of scones, cookies, and pastries would suggest otherwise, Stockbridge's is not just a bakery. The eatery also offers dishes to sate appetites for every meal, such as omelets, sandwiches, salads, and burgers. And unlike traditional bakeries and DMVs, Stockbridge's has a BYOB policy.
