Learning is a four-step process at Tutor Doctor. Before students are matched with a tutor, they work with a consultant to devise realistic goals and a plan for reaching those goals. Then they are matched with a tutor based on compatibility in terms of learning style, academic needs, and even personality. It's only then that the tutor and student meet to work on any of a large pool of subjects, from English, math, and science to test prep or college coursework. After sessions, tutors report on progress to parents via email.

The massage-technician course requires 300 hours of specialized study, whereas massage therapists engage in 500 hours and holistic bodywork practitioners complete 1,000 hours to graduate. Students also gain firsthand experience practicing their lessons on the public at a2zHealth Massage Schools’ student Swedish-massage teaching clinic. The staff members at Sylvan Learning's numerous centers understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, they don’t try to implement a uniform tutoring system; instead, they design custom lesson programs based on the results of a skills assessment using diagnostic tools and one-on-one interviews.
Tutors work with students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12, illuminating topics ranging from basic reading and writing to remembering complex algebraic formulas without having them tattooed on your chest. Many of Sylvan’s instructors work in local schools, so they are intimately familiar with common curricula and understand how to gear lessons toward optimal results. Camps and after-school and summer classes can ready high-schoolers for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or they can help students to wow college-admissions officers with their superior essay-writing skills.
Brain Balance Achievement Centers' brain-based approach has helped thousands of children with ADHD, dyslexia, processing disorders, Aspberger's, and other non-medical disorders improve academically and socially. After an assessment of all areas of the child’s brain and body function, Brain Balance integrates physical and cognitive exercises with dietary change to help correct imbalances between the brain’s hemispheres, also called functional disconnection. Brain Balance also combines these treatments with exercises in reading, math, listening, spelling, and memory.
