We are a yoga center located in Sherman Oaks California serving the San Fernando Valley dedicated to the cause of encouraging each other to be loving, virtuous and healthy in body mind and spirit, and have fun doing it. We have three practice rooms totaling over 3650 sq ft with 85 classes a week and open 365 days a year.
Tranquility unravels itself around practitioners as they enter Two Hearts Yoga, where students come from all around the city to practice alongside founder and 12-year teaching veteran Georgina O’Farrill within her family-inclusive practice. Georgina leads parents and their children through an accommodating schedule of Anusara-based classes designed to strengthen both body and mind, such as pre- and postnatal classes, which provide modified sessions that diminish stress and prepare the body for battling storks when the big day comes. Children can tag along during Baby and Me classes, and older sets of little ones can learn to breathe easier during kids' sessions. The studio's large walls and open hardwood floors further give moms the space to stretch freely and babies the room to practice their favorite dance moves.
Lani Pelino discovered Pilates as a means to help her condition her body for dancing as she studied at Ohio University. Later, during an apprenticeship with The Atlanta Ballet, she completed her Pilates' teacher certification and opened Mind 2 Body as a venue for students to build healthy, powerful muscles without risking injury. As she continued to teach, she incorporated yoga, gyrotonics, and ballet-barre-based exercise into her studio's repertoire.
Now, joined by a dozen other instructors, Lani inducts beginners into the gratifying world of exercise, helps long-term athletes improve their skills, and even certifies teachers looking to bring the workouts to their own students. Lit by sunbeams splashing through a large front window, her green studio honors the earth with organic cleaning equipment, reusable bamboo towels, and studio mats manufactured without the use of PVCs, chloride, or the labor of indentured squirrels.
At Max Fitness Academy, coaches and certified personal trainers team up to devise custom nutrition and exercise programs around individual goals. Coaches tailor meals and workouts, and personal trainers mandate movements in a contemporary gym, which sports strength and cardio equipment alongside mirrored walls and a boxing ring. Guided by a unique Bodymap system, the team outlines nutrition needs and charts progress from each client's very first pushup until they reach their goal of bench-pressing a semitrailer. Specialized programs cater to specific demographics, including new or expectant moms, future brides, and current kids.
The fast-paced workouts of group kickboxing and cross-fitness classes merge socialization and sweating. Kickboxing enlists dynamic combos of kicking, punching, and cardio to chisel entire frames and shed up to 1,200 calories in an hour. Cross-fitness classes tone bodies and improve endurance with light lifting and cardiovascular maneuvers, preparing clients for an upcoming race or attempt to rob Fort Knox.
Fitness industry veteran Dulcinea Lee Hellings's goal is to bring a high-quality, effective exercise regimen to people who don't love big gyms or can't afford personal trainers. In 2004, she realized that mornings could be used for more than hitting the snooze button over and over for two hours, and founded Boot Camp "Morning Crunch!" to help fledgling exercisers whip into shape.
She designs her all-levels programs to be scream-free morning motivators⎯the first stop in her patrons' journey of daily accomplishments. The fast-paced, ever-changing circuit of strength and cardio exercises keeps bodies guessing and minds from becoming bored. Each of the boot camp's 12 outdoor locations has a different dedicated trainer who gets to know each student personally, remembering their names and memorizing any interesting freckle patterns. They complement their morning routines with a smattering of evening options for those who prefer to work out after the day's activities.
